Quote:
But according to two sources who regularly speak with the Trump administration, DACA is a settled issue.

And in recent conversations, two administration sources pointed to chief strategist Steve Bannon as the man who preserved the current iteration of DACA, the victor of a debate with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, who favored curtailing the program.

“Bannon usually wins most battles,” an administration insider said.
Previous reports have cast Bannon on one end of the spectrum on rescinding DACA and a more moderate group led by chief of staff Reince Priebus that wanted to keep it, but BuzzFeed News has learned that Bannon views DACA, which tends to be viewed more favorably than many immigration policies, as a strategic asset in the coming immigration policy battles, a source familiar with his thinking said.

“Trump was never in favor of repealing DACA,” said a source close to the president, who also said that keeping the program is in line with the immigration stance of Bannon, whose counsel Trump closely heeds. Bannon’s economic nationalist view is very much rooted in culture, and so eliminating DACA wouldn’t be a priority for him because “these kids have been here and they’re going to schools here,” the source said. “They’re Americans. They understand the culture.”

This is buzzfeed, so who knows how reliable this is.

Wait, according to a Politico article (which I need to find) it was in fact Ryan Pribus who fought against Bannon etc al, to keep DACA, and ultimately persuaded them to do so, according to an insider source on that piece.

Either way, article clearly states it was a strategic move. We'll see how DACA is threatened when democrats choose to not cooperate.

Only reason Bannon would want to keep DACA alive is to use it as a bargaining chip for further negotiations.

I think the most important thing here is "trump never wanted to end the program"

Regardless of what bannon or anyone says, Trump would of kept it.

Here is another outlet reporting on this, it is just referring to the same Buzzfeed article, but the point is that it seems to be getting some traction: http://theweek.com/speedreads/684970...saved-dreamers

I don't know what is really going on, I thought that Bannon was like DACA enemy #1. I think news stories like this one are ultimately setting up the ground work for Trump either keeping DACA or offering something more permanent in exchange for enforcement money. Articles like these are basically preparing Trump's base to accept the fact that we will either be left alone, or helped out in exchange for some enforcement. If their base gets angry (which they will), the White House can say that the Trump administration, including Bannon apparently, has been pro DACA all along.
