If one of you were the President of United States, how would you solve illegal immigration?
Be fair. Consider, that illegal immigrants have broken laws when they entered the country.
Also, take into account immigrants that have legally applied for visas & green cards and in the hopper. Should DACA recipients get authorization to live while thousands of other people are waiting in line ? What would you do with non-DACA illegal immigrants ?
Interested to hear you out, folks !

Pass Dream Act. Get some border enforcement. Pass CIR. Get the wall. Pass Raise Act. Pass some sort of backlog bill to address legal immigrants. Pass more border enforcement.

Citizenship for dreamers....fine and path to legalization for undocumented who have been here 10 plus years... Secure the borders. Halt the dv lottery for a year or 2 to take care of all this.

Well, taking into account that I am biased towards my situation.
I did not come to this country under the intention of breaking the law, nor did I intentionally break the law.

I grew up in diverse city, whites, black, hispanics, asians. As a kid you are brought up as an American, the same beliefs freedoms and aspirations. As a kid you are also given the same educational opportunities.

Once you hit legal age, then everything changes, no ability to drive, to go out with friends without fear, no ability to go to school because of financial issues.

All while at the same time feeling like you are from this country, loving the same symbols, same principles.

I made it through, university, obtained a masters degree.

Got the opportunity to have 5 years and accomplish a lot of things. I work for a large automaker doing engineering work at the highest level.

I believe that, one, border security is necessary and that legal immigration should be followed.

However,

I feel like DACA recipients deserve at least consideration for a vote in the U.S Congress. Congress should make the laws, but obstructionism is keeping our country in the 20th century.

Going beyond dreamers, daca, the immigration system needs to be updated. My company has a very difficult time filling in positions, technical positions because people are starting to leave to their countries or others, where they can more easily become permanent residents.

I probably see the situation through my own lense, but you wanted an opinion.

Thank you John, Rida and Johann.
I concur that DACA recipients need a pathway to legalisation but should be queued after the legal immigrants in process currently. That means DACA recipients might take 10+ years to get a green card. That's ok. Don't think that people should be kicked out of the country for a mistake they have no control over.

On the other hand, I'm dead against giving any path of legalization to illegal aliens that knew what they were doing. Giving them amnesty means broadcasting to the world that American borders are open and you can be legal at some point in the future. Amnesty will encourage a huge wave of people from the southern border.

that's what the DREAM ACT offers, 5 years of conditional PR then another 5 years of PR. then we get to apply for citizenship after 10 years. i think that is fair and DREAMers arent cutting anyone in line.

as for everyone else, are you okay with work permits for the rest of the illegal population?

Better question is how would you solve it, and why would you take that course?
