If lawmakers cannot do so, Durbin said, 1,000 people will begin to lose their protected status every day, with nearly 300,000 losing protection by the end of this year. The same number will lose that status next year, he said.

A College student with DACA status said she felt “guilty” that Congress may agree to legislation that would give her a 10-year conditional path to citizenship, but do so in exchange for $25 billion to build a border wall and boost immigration patrols that would affect other undocumented people. She asked Durbin how Democrats could justify even considering such a Faustian trade with Republicans.

Noting that it takes 60 votes to pass any major legislation in the Senate, Durbin said with 49 Democrats and 51 Republicans, the math is not in their favor. “I don’t have the votes for a clean DREAM Act,” he said.

As students voiced their anger, frustration, and fear over what may happen to their status,
Durbin urged the Forum audience, which was made up mostly of undergraduates, to channel their energy into political action, including protesting and, most importantly, voting.

Are these daca holders brain dead? Instead of pushing for compromises , they insist on a clean dream act . Then , they are worried about losing status in March? You can’t have both !

This is BS, why would anyone care about the Wall money? This is 2020 Dem propaganda, the real issue is the ending LEGAL immigration ala chain migration. NO ONE CARES ABOUT 25B!

That’s is bullshit, I can’t believe there are dreamers this ignorant. A clean bill didn’t passed with Democrats in power and it will never pass with Republicans in power, zero chance. Why do dreamers act like republicans are reasonable people? Even if they had the votes trump would just veto it and that’s it back to the starting point.

Honestly. Who gives a shit if they want to spend 25B on a bunch of bricks. I'm worried about the backlash from LPRs and citizens over family sponsorship. If they want to cut it, they better do it during CIR because that is a huge logistics problem that we don't have time for. They can't overhaul the whole immigration system in a couple of weeks when they haven't been able to figure out what to do with 800K people over the past five months.

I think you misread what he said . He’s saying a clean dream act will not pass, it didn’t when democrats had 60 senators in 2010. Idk why some think it can now lol.

No Legal Immigrant in line minds removing "chain migration" and going to merit based.
