Quote:
Some Senate Republicans on Wednesday challenged President Trump on his strategy for ending a 19-day shutdown, expressing concerns over its impact on federal workers and the economy.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who faces a tough reelection in a state Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won in 2016, said she asked Trump to consider a bipartisan compromise she co-wrote with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) last year to give certain immigrants, known as Dreamers, a path to citizenship in exchange for border security money.

“I suggested that we take a look at the package that we put together last February and brought to the floor as a possible compromise,” Collins said, recounting her conversation with Trump during a closed-door lunch meeting in the Capitol.

But, she said, the president insisted that he receive a substantial increase in border funding without giving green cards to immigrants in the country illegally who came to the country at a young age.

The bipartisan immigration proposal, which would have created a pathway to citizenship for about 1.8 million people, would have also provided $25 billion for broad border security. It fell five votes short of the 60-vote hurdle needed to overcome a filibuster but garnered support from eight Republicans.

“The president is very convinced of his position and the necessity of the $5.7 billion” he has requested to build a border wall, Collins told reporters.

At some point all these republican senators that want to open the government need to realize that they need to get McConnell to bring the house bills to a vote. It’s plain obvious now that Trump won’t change his position.

I think its funny that 800,000 workers are without pay due to the shutdown and coincidentally there are 800,000 dreamers that need GC.
