I'd like to know if anyone is in a similar position. I did a bit of self-employment work and W-2 work this 2019, but the self-employment work usually has high fees. So I'm hesitant to file this year's because I have no income at this time.
I've done my 2018 tax return (and years before that) consecutively. It's only this time I am running a little late. I'm anxious about the return fee I'll have to pay, though I wouldn't really mind it if I'm not unemployed and/or may get the stimulus check help. Right now, I'm just living off my savings, so I'm just trying to be cautious.
But still... I am unemployed and my savings are dwindling due to food and rent. I'm just trying to be careful. So should I still hope for this stimulus check? Is there a second batch coming this week? Or should I then file my 2019, eat the big fees (I paid about $1.2k just being self-employed/1099 last year), and hope that at least helps the IRS signal my account OR should I just go ahead and file the free file fillable form they have on the site?
