I'm filled with wanderlust and I was wondering if this is possible or if anyone has done it.

yes, traveled in 2015 and no issues. Same as traveling to another state. People on this forum also traveled during Trump era and were fine. I had my work permit with me just to be safe since my license has a big old "TEMPORARY" stamped on it but didn't need to pull out my work permit.

EDIT - Anyone traveled to virgin islands? I have been wanting to go but scared to leave the mainland.

I can't speak for VI, but outside the mainland I have travelled to Hawaii 2x with no issues. Just presented my driver's license and that's it. Althought this was pre-COVID, so protocols may be different this time.

Hope this helps.

Went to Puerto Rico about two years ago and am scheduled to go again this December. Had no issues on our last visit and hoping for the same this year.

I brought all of my docs, including my EAD and my driver's license. Only ended up needing my license.

Did you only need your DL when flying out from PR? I know flying in isn't an issue.
