This is my final post on this forum. I went in for my green card interview yesterday and my case was approved on the spot, with the official written approval notice in my USCIS account today.
-Entered the US with inspection (tourist visa) when I was a toddler back in 1990.
-On DACA since 2012.
-Married to a US citizen for over 2 years.
-AOS via marriage case submitted in late 2023.
-I130 approved in May 2024.
-I485 interview was yesterday (Monday) with an approval on the spot and written approval one day later (today).
-I will be getting my 10-year green card in a few weeks.
-I am eligible for citizenship in 3 years (March, 2028, before the next presidential election).

The feeling of freedom in gaining legal residency after being in the US for 35 years is indescribable. It is a feeling I hope that all of you are able to experience at some point in your lives.

Given the amount of anxiety and stress caused by my AOS case plus the new changes the Trump Admin has begun to put into place, have decided to stop following and interacting with anything immigration news related for a while, including me following this forum and posting here. I am going to spend some time focusing on my health, relaxing, and finally, traveling abroad with my husband.

That aside, I will never forget my personal history, the sacrifices my parents made to help get me where I am today (much better than where I would have ended up in my country of birth), and of course, President Obama’s DACA program, which turned my life around. I may no longer be on DACA, but DACA will always be embedded in my heart.

For those of you waiting for a solution, my biggest suggestion and encouragement is for you to play with the hand you were dealt. All of us under DACA have been dealt a very shitty hand, but that is life. Take charge of your own life and future where you can, with the very limited options that you have, and make the most of it. Life is very short, and what you have left of yours is shorter… try not to wait for useless politicians to come to your rescue.

Once I am a citizen and can vote, I for sure as hell am never voting Republican. Aside from immigration, there are other issues and topics that are important to me, like education, science, technology, health/medicine, and minority rights. I can never vote for the party that has largely never stood on the right side of modern history when it comes to the things that are the most important to me. No side is perfect, but it is 100% clear to me which side is worse.

Stay strong, DACA Fam!
Goodbye!

P.S. If Trump ever does get some kind of permanent DACA solution passed, I owe you each a chicken enchilada and a beer! Cheers!

I mean you don't have to leave just because you're now legal but it's your choice

That's it. That's the end game right there.
The bonds that we share are bonds of pain and trauma.
I'm happy for you. It's good to see one of us being able to move on and walk away from this torture.
Live the best life that you can live and may God heal all the wounds that you've suffered.

Congratulations!
I agree with everything you said and more: after the millions who died during the height Covid19 and watching ppl and politicians put profit above families, please take care of yourselves first. The Political body in the country is 99% as corrupt as that of any other. Except for a few like AOC and Bernie. I, too, am stepping away from this site.

TO the OP, Congratulations on being approved and wish you the best in your endeavors with your new status. I would like to suggest getting TSA Pre-Check if traveling frequently.

Also, I see some think/believe that sharing a triumph of your approved status is sorta like boasting, but considering you have had to endure for 35 years with no status or a quasi status such as DACA, you and others who have been recently approved for permanent residency have earned the right. You are starting another journey in your life. Sharing is not boasting, despite the perception some thinks it may bring. I think the sharing of such stories should bring hope and hopefully endurance to resolve one's status issue so they may continue what life they have in this country.

In addition, those who have or are making the transition to permanently stay can be overwhelmed by the experience and the wonderment of the situation. In short, what comes next besides continuing with the same seems to take precedence...when it shouldn't. There are simply some things if you have had DACA only that will NOT prepare you for the transition of having US permanent residency...whether Dream act is passed or not. This website can be a good resource for information but that depends on the users who participate, imo.
