Just wanted to say good luck to all you Texas Dreamies. Stay safe and dry hopefully! And if you're going to evacuate, you might wanna get on it before this afternoon, though traffic doesn't seem to be too bad anymore. Good luck!

Geez, apparently over in downtown Houston "2.1 million homes out of 2.26 million homes are without power." Hope you guys are doing alright.

Thanks guys. I hope all of the other Houston/Galveston Dreamies fared well. We had no electricity from Friday night going on Sunday night, and so we decided to move elsewhere. I don't think I've ever appreciated a hot bath and warm food so much.

Things are pretty bad in Galveston and along the bays, but as one guy said in a comments section: "Another note, for all the whining on TV about no ice, water, food, gas, power you should think the Lord that you have a house. Some of us don't and some people seem to forget that. God Bless."

With that said, in the Houston area, so many people are still w/o electricity, and so w/o ice, food is becoming scarce; gas is even scarcer. The few stores and gas stations that are open here have lines out their door and stretching further. Gas pretty much ran out Thursday evening/Friday morning, and it's been hard to get refueled, so for those of us that do have power, we're staying inside b/c gas is such a precious commodity.

Ike passed over us Friday night with winds around 100 mph, and the wind was what did the most damage in Houston. It knocked away power for a majority of the city, damaged a few businesses, but most of all threw a lot of stuff around. In north Houston, there are a lot more trees, and many of them were uprooted and thrown around. The trees were the hardest part of trying to get around, b/c most streets have so much debris, if not entire fallen trees blocking the path.

However, Saturday night we received even more rain, so high water in some parts started to be the problem. Thankfully, we didn't face any indoor flooding, but quite a few people did. We're supposed to be getting a bit of a cold front, which will hopefully help those w/o power b/c it gets incredibly hot inside, and opening the window is hard b/c of mosquitoes.

For Houston, I think the biggest issue is power, so that more supermarkets and businesses can start to open, especially for the people who were not that well supplied and are in need now. Speaking of which, when we were moving yesterday, the lone Burger King that was open had a line of cars stretching out into the street so that people could get pre-made food. I can't stop thinking of how lucky we are to still have some gas in our cars and a lot of food in our fridge, not to mention electricity today; I can't imagine having to spend another day in the dark w/all that heat. Once again though, compared to places near the coast, Houston fared much better.

I know the Salvation Army and the Houston Red Cross are in need of donations, so if any of you guys know anyone who's rolling in money, let 'em know.

I'm so happy to hear from you, Free! I was really worried about you, and I'm glad you're doing okay.

I hope all the other DREAMies from the area are doing okay as well.

Isn't pingpongabyss from Houston??
I really hope she is okay! has anyone heard from her?

I am very emotional about what Ike did, I was in Galveston last month for a week and I can't even look at the pictures, I made friends with some locals I've been praying for them and I am going to call them as soon as they are allowed back into the island. I also found out through a picture I saw online that my favorite hangout at the end of a pier was completely destroyed

I have family in Houston but thank God they are all okay.

Stars has survived the hurricane. Yay! So glad you are okay Free. Where is ping? Well it has been pretty hard I live much closer to Galveston an hour away so the hurricane was scary. The whole house shook. As far as damage to our home, we lost a fence and a neighbor's tree split in half bringing down our back yard power lines. We have no electricity but we got a generator. Obtaining gas is still difficult but we are managing. We've had to get MRE's for the neighbors and some friends. I am beyond grateful for the conditions we are living in because neighbors had roof leaks, trees are everywhere, my friend had a tree fall on his car, a friend lost their house to a fire, and one close friend had flooding. I am sending this from my phone so Free keep me informed. My heart and prayers for those in Galveston and the Galveston area. I'm so sad but I was able to spend time fishing on the pier so I will cherish that memory. May we rebuilt. For those Dreamies, always be prepared for hurricanes because FEMA is no very reliable. The cries for help being heard through radio were beyond heartbreaking. Families needing ice for insulin, baby formula, and just water. No one was ready for this.
