diabetes

well on Monday i got the news that i have diabetes
they havent told me yet what type but im hoping it would be 2 because i hate needles. it was the worst news i have gotten in a while. so there goes chance of joining the military one day. then i started to think about about the cost of the medicine.

so the question is does anyone here have diabetes? and what do you do about the medicine? and what do you do to go on in life?

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT RELAXING...but I believe that if its type 2 or borderline diabetes with proper care and excercise you can have it under control and have a normal life I have heard you can do away with it but not if your type 1.I can be wrong so your best shot is to google "types of diabetes" and I'm sure you will come across important information and regarding to needles its a process of 5 minutes or so and personally I believe its worth it for the fact that you need to get the proper care a.s.a.p knowing the diagnose pinpoints you in the direction and actions you need to take.Once again I'm sorry you have this disease and I really hope a cure is found for it.

Most of my family has diabetes, so i'm at high risk. Make sure to follow your doctors guidelines strictly. I hope your situation is manageable. Wish you the best of luck.

that sucks... If you don't mind me asking, are you obese? Type II diabetes is usually caused by obesity. If it is type two, dieting and exercising can actually reverse it. Even though it can be tough. It is usually managed by medication but sometimes type II diabetics gets insulin shots too. If you are healthy and skinny, then it's most likely type I and you just need insulin shots. It is a hassle but diabetes is definitely a disease that you can live with. It just takes discipline and sacrifice to change your lifestyle. I hope things will workout for you.

well no when i got weighed i was 157 and I'm about 5'8" and20 years old my blood sugar was 180 when measured. but from what i heard is that to have a more accurate measurement is that i need to fast for so many hours to have a more accurate blood sugar measurement. but what I'm planing on doing is getting a second opinion.

that's normal body weight, most likely type I diabetes. I think type II would be kinda on the rare side on your case. On the good side though, needles may suck but your diet doesn't have to change significantly. It's simply a lack of hormone insulin so you just have to get shots everyday. I just gave some of those shots last week, it's really not that bad, you just poke it in your stomach where there is fat, you pinch and poke it. But yeah get that second opinion, cheer up buddy, you are still young. It won't be too bad.

You didn't fast? disregard your results. You blood glucose leves are higher while you stomach is digesting food. I highly doubt you have diabetes as you seem physically fit from your height and weight.

One more thing....

Diabetes runs in your family? Obviously your chances are higher....
