Hello everyone I am a longtime reader first time poster. My name is chris and I attend Valencia Comm college and the other day I was in the library studying for my chem test and a friend of mines was there helping me..to skip all the boring stuff he had a friend with him who did not attend the college we got to talking and she told me of her situation. So i came here to ask you guys a question and that is can a illegal attend college in florida, she graduated from high-school here in clermont and has a SS. I talked with this girl for about an hour and felt so bad she was so brilliant. From what I know she resides here in florida but has a chicago DL since she lived up there for about a year. I plan on taking her to the movies this weekend and would love to feed her some positive information so if anyone can help that would be great news.

Chris

Yes but that also depends on the college, for example, from what i heard, i thought that Valencia cc didn't accept illegals, so since she is illegal they probably wouldn't accept her there. I go to Seminole cc and they didn't give me a problem about being undocumented, but i have to pay out of state tuition because of it. So yes, illegals can attend most colleges in florida, unless that specific college does not accept undocumented students, but i believe most do.

Also how did you go about applying for admission into scc? Do you think that her chicago DL would effect her in anyway?

What if I go to Los Angeles and I'd like to take a course in UCLA? Is that possible there?

Did she graduate from a IL high-school? If she did then she would be granted in-state tuition in IL as they have a law providing such.

FAU has an out of state tuition waiver that she would qualify for if she has at least a 3.5 gpa and otherwise gets into the school.

Lastly, send a message to SWER and ask them for more info or how you or your friend can get involved in working towards passing DREAM. Certainly an alternative to not being able to go to school.

Good luck, and your friend is very lucky to have you.

Yea, if you aren't from Cali (HS graduate etc.) then you'd have to pay out of state tuition.

No she graduated from highschool in Orlando then moved to chicago to be with her family for a year, they were able to get her a DL there somehow a year or two back but now she is back in orlando.

and thank you I would hate to see her not get a fair chance at going to school based ont he hour or two I had with her she seemed to be a very well educated and bright minded girl

Out of state at scc is about 280 per credit, one class is usually 3 or 4 credits, so for me it comes out to somewhere around 900 per just one class, which is why im not able to be a full time student as of now, it just gets too expensive. i dont think her chicago dl would affect her in a negative way, they would still accept her. To apply, I had to go there in person and speak to the international admissions advisor and tell her about my situation. Like I said before, they didn't give me any trouble, just informed me that i have to pay out of state.

Hi, do you know where I can find more information about the out of state tuition waiver from FAU? I've tried looking on their website, but couldn't find anything. I'm thinking about applying to FAU and this would be REALLY helpful. Thanks.
