Maybe the USCIS employees got some training on DACA renewals recently.

I asked him "So you're saying i can LEGALLY continue to work after my EAD expires as long as i have my receipt and my case is pending?" he said "Yes", I said "Do you have any type of documentation or where are you getting this information from?" He said, "I don't have anything in front of me but from my experience it has never been a problem. If you would like some documentation you can schedule an appointment with your local office".

So I hang up, call again and talk to lady. I explain everything to her again, she then reads me the note that dreamer83 quoted above and says, "ok so you can continue to work as long as you have your receipt number and your case in pending"
me: "Well the reason i called was because i read that but i submitted my application within 100 days"
she: "That's not a problem, with DACA it's different than with a regular EAD, as long as you have your card and your receipt number you should be ok"
me: "ok but on that note it says 'we MAY provide...' so how do i know if the extension is provided? Do i need some sort of document saying it's extended or reference number?"
she: "no you don't need anything as long as you have your receipt and your card, but if you want anything printed you can make an appointment with your local USCIS"

3 calls and all 3 people told me pretty much the same thing, not a single rep has told me that I definitely HAVE to stop working once it expires. Good thing is that i know my employer won't care, but I do hate that none of the reps could point me to some proof where I am confident that they are right.

Go to your LOCAL USCIS OFFICE and get documentation proof of that.

The receipt form is not listed as a form acceptable for I-9. It's going to be interesting to tell our employers that we are still legally able to work.

Mine didn't even ask me, I sent in my new EAD via email. No issues.

I was sweating it since my new EAD arrived a day after my old one expired, so technically I was not supposed to work until 9AM when USPS delivered it.

I guess so, I called 2 more times today and 2 more people told me the same thing. I don't know if there are some sort of special notes for DACA because 4 of the 6 people I talked to gave me generic answered at first then told me to hold so they could further research, then they all told me I would be ok with just my receipt.

I tried several times to make an appointment but there is never appointments available, all it says on the website is to "try again at another time"

Considering the renewal process was only release 3 months ago, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of information regarding our situation is not yet published for every type of scenario. Luckily my employer will take my word for it so I'm not too worried.

Pootie, did you do an INFOpass? They received my application 122 days before expiration, and I'm still in Initial Review.

By law, you cannot work with an expired EAD.

But it depends WHO you work for.

If that company uses E-verify. They will ask for your new unexpired EAD.
So it boils down to HR. If they are doing their job properly, yes they will ask for your new one.

Those 3 persons you talked to don't know a damn thing about EAD cards.

You need the physical card to be able to work legally (unexpired)

It doesn't make sense. How can you work legally when your EAD has expired?
