hi! i'm not exactly new at this forum, but i've always been a silent reader of you guys' discussions.. until now that im in college, i started thinking about the other options that i have besides patiently waiting..

while i was in high school, i already knew that i might not be able to afford UC because of my illegal status. i was brought here from the Philippines when i was 15. and since i grew up studying in a very strict, demanding, and competitive private institution in the Philippines, i felt very courageous to take honors/AP classes when i started going to school in California. i was also very involved, taking on various leadership roles in my high school. at the time, i thought, if the dream act gets passed, i'd be able to say that i worked hard, did my best, and that i really deserve higher education as much as US citizens do.

im a community college freshman now. i thought i'm already okay with it but, no offense to others who also go to a community college, but im finding it difficult and painful to accept the fact that i worked really hard in high school only to end up in the same level as other kids who dont even care about their future as much as i do. the lessons go by really slow, there are only a few kids who are serious, most are just there just because. those who dream as big as i do, those who worked as hard as i did, are all studying in the best universities right now, except me.. only because im illegal and they're not.

it's not that i only care about my pride though. this is my fate as an undocumented student--i'm well aware of that. i also know that i can transfer after two years... but the question is, what if the dream act doesnt pass by that time?

i was inspired by the "the other option (leaving)" thread, and the ambitious person that i am looked up the top 500 universities in the world (like i always did in high school). of course all UC's (one of them i could've gotten into) are at least in the top 30... the top 50 schools in the world are all from either the US, UK, or Japan. schools in the UK plus living expenses just cost as much as here in the US. but living and studying in japan only cost about $800-$1000 per semester!!! and obtaining a student visa is very easy (although you'll be limited to JUST STUDYING and MAYBE few hours of work a week if you're financially in need), and they'll even offer you an affordable 6-month course to learn their language before you enter a university, although there are universities in japan that have english as a medium of instruction..

and i think it wont be difficult to live in japan cuz it may not be close to becoming a melting pot, it's become like a salad bowl (lol i hope u get what i mean), with all the foreigners living, working, and going to school there.

im already enrolled in a japanese language course at my college. however the thing that im having a hard time researching about is leaving the US, and applying for a student visa in japan while im here in the US illegally... can anyone help me?

wait you are trying to go to Japan permanently?

Because once you leave the state you get the 10 year ban, you pretty much can't come back.

If u wanna go to Japan permanently as an international student, you would have to get a student visa after getting accepted into a school. I think you might have to go back to your home country then go to Japan.

Geronimo this is the second time I've heard you say this. You cannot permanently move somewhere on a student visa. They are TEMPORARY only. You need to find a permanent way of moving there. For Canada you will have to apply for the skilled worker category and you can forget about living permanently in Japan because it's next to impossible to legally move there permanently.

oh i know, sorry wut I meant by "permanently," was permanently in eventual course of time... I am aware that student visas are temporary but I meant in the other forum that I wanted to move there permanently eventually... Same case here I was asking if she wanted to go live in Japan permanently after the student visa, sorry for misunderstanding.

Anyway... Japan is super expensive...
