Okay...

Buses
Bike
Walking
friend/parent drive

problem is those alternatives dont always work especially if you live in a city that bus stops and buses are about 30min away from each other. Riding a bike aint gonna happen if work is 40min away. walking and sweat and work dont mix lol unless your job is really close to your house. Friend and parent taking you doesnt always work either friends arent gonna drive your butt everywhere and same goes for your parents.. and its a dang shame if your like me and Im 19 or even worse if your older..

I was thinking.. electric scooters? if its 49cc and under you can drive it on the road w out a license.. problem is how many mph does a 49cc scooter go? I heard 30-35mph? imagine that on a 45mph limit street people will kill you... haha I dont know what ELSE and OTHER alternatives are there.. My city doesnt have buses everywhere.. I understand for someone in NY they have taxis and buses, subways etc.. but Im in Florida.. what do you guys do?

Why don't you try to go to Washington or New Mexico and try to get a Driver's License there?

You need a license to drive a scooter in California.

The electric scooter sounds like the best option. But just think about it. Electric scooters are not very reliable. Sometimes the battery life will be too short, and then you're stuck with it. My advice is: if you're getting a scooter, get a gas scooter. And get at least a 150 cc scooter, nothing smaller. Trust me, you don't want a 49cc motor.

Scooters are a very good option for girls, but not for guys. Why? Lets face it. In a scooter, even if it is a 500cc one, you will look gay. And I don't think you'll want that if you're straight, do you?

Yes, you can say "You dont need a DL to drive a scooter", but again, think about it. There's lots of asshole cops all over the country. Even if you don't need a DL to drive a scooter, you can still get pulled over and get a shitty excuse for it. And then what? The scooter is gone if you live in CA.

All I'm saying is this:

If you're going to break the law, at least do it in style.

Instead of a scooter, get a Honda Rebel 250cc. they are really cool for beginners and they look ok. However, this is only a beginner bike. After 3 or 4 months, you'll want something bigger.

And how do I know scooters suck for guys? I rode one for about two years. Thank god I don't have to get on that thing anymore.

This is only my personal opinion, but if you don't want to break the law by driving without a license, I suggest taking the bus.

No thats what I meant a gas scooter.. ITS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE IT w out a license if its 50cc or higher.. Id have to get a 49cc or lower and those go up to 35mph and I doubt going on a 45mph road people would appreciate that lol...

ooooooh my god. here we go again with Juang's homophobia. I really don't understand why you have such an infatuation with telling the world about how "gay" scooters are. They're not "gay" ( and by the way stop referring to things as 'gay' it's offensive and ignorant ) they're merely modes of transportation for people who value efficiency over doing something "in style".

not everyone needs a machine to prove how masculine they are, but it seems like you need something to compensate for another part of your body. This is only my personal opinion though.

I wish we didn't have to waste energy on things like this when there are more important matters at hand, like the point of this forum... but it really makes me angry reading comments like these...

ok, let me say it once again. I'll try to be less ignorant.

"you will look like a girl. And I don't think you'll want that if you're a straight guy, do you?"

I know some guys consider this scooter option because it seems like a good idea. I know this because I rode on one for two years. I'm just passing my experience to the "next DAP generation". No scooter will get you the results you expect and eventually you will want something bigger. For a guy, getting a scooter is just a waste of money. Period.

Cops won't really look at you if you're a good driver. I think there's a bigger chance of getting pulled over if you're in a car than in a motorcycle.

Let's face it. Most guys who ride a scooter is because they either couldn't afford, or were too scared to get on, a real motorcycle. How do I know this? Because I, myself, couldn't afford, or had the courage to get on a real motorcycle. I made the mistake of buying a scooter thinking "Oh, it is just like a motorcycle, but only safer". Thank god those days are over.

I also met a lot of people who drove scooters here in LA. Even when there were some guys who actually loved scooters (most in their late 30's and early 40's), most of the young guys (around my age) would give the "well, this is what I can afford right now. But I'll get something bigger eventually" answer when I asked them why did they get the scooter.

I know in some places you don't need a DL to drive a 49cc scooter, but do you know why? Because that thing is a toy!!! You don't want a 49cc. You can't give a ride to anyone in that thing. And you won't be able to go any faster than 30 mph if you weight more than 140 lbs. Girls, if you're getting a scooter, make sure to get a 150cc scooter.

And yes, I stand behind my "If you're going to break the law, at least do it in style" statement. Just think about it. When you drive a scooter or motorcycle without a license you're breaking the law. And if for some reason, whatever it may be, you get pulled over, you are going to pay for it. The punishment is the same for both, driving a scooter or motorcycle.

Driving a scooter without a driver's license because "You just want something to move around, and that's all you need" is like robbing a bank and only taking $1000 because "that's all you need to pay your rent".

I say go for the whole "enchilada" and get a good looking motorcycle that will make car's alarms go off when you pass them by. I don't know why, but it always makes me smile when it happens. Another "bonus" you'll get from riding a motorcycle is all the attention from the girls . Ugly, and pretty ones. Oh, and don't forget those so called "lesbians" that just for some reason find you sexy on that motorcycle.

Juang, please stop disrupting threads with your ridiculous rants. Nobody is interested. This forum isn't here for your "style" tips.

If you have no other options, get a scooter. I don't see a problem if you don't need a license with certain size scooters. The worst you'll get is people who are angry at you for driving slowly, but honestly, who cares? Are you more concerned about getting to work, or about how people see you? I think it's a pretty easy choice.

When you say work is 40 min away, is that by car or bus? Can you get there by bus/bike combo? A 30 min wait for a bus isn't so bad, just requires more careful planning.

Take a look at this:

http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/geninfo.html

Look in the motorcycles section, it seems like you have to have a permit.

I took some classes this summer and rode my bike there every day, took me about 35-40 min, in 80+ weather. It took me 30 min by bus, 20 by car. So, if it takes you 40 min by car (including traffic), it will probably take you about anywhere from 40 min to 1 hr on the bike. It's not that long, time seems to pass faster on a bike than on a car.

In case you end up riding a bike:

Want to sweat less? Ride slow, ride more, wear cotton/synth blends or thin wool, avoid hills. You could also just carry a change of clothes. Learn to signal and look behind you, learn how to change a flat. Lights. Read about vehicular cycling. Find out if there's a bike co-op/kitchen near you, if so, check it out.

Hope this helps.
