I'm doing Liberal Arts but I'm thinking change to Nursing Program. I have hear many times that the USA needs more nursing but I don't know if it is truth. In addition, I hear that this program may help me to legalize... Any thoughts ? Thanks.

I do not think there are any provisions which allow you to legalize if you are a nurse. Look up the threads under nurses. Ask stilldreamingRN she seems pretty knowledgable about the subject.

You should become a scientist, maybe in the near future the STEM programm will pass.

Nursing is a great career, if you're
1) legal..lol..and
2) if caring for others is something you're genuinely passionate about.

As an undocumented student, it's pretty tough and stressful, considering all the background checks etc you have to worry about throughout the process. Even after that, there's no guarantee that your state will allow for licensure. In NY, they do, which is great. Though you can't exactly use it..(except for working privately).

In terms of getting legalized, it was possible many years ago probably. In today's economy, the likelihood is minimal and the process can take many years (~ 6 years currently for RNs).

If you get your masters in nursing, your chances at sponsorship are more likely, and the wait time is minimal - I have heard.

If you haven't already, take a look at this thread. It may help explain in better detail:

I always advocate for pursuing, and not giving up on your dreams...but to take this path, it should be something you're really passionate about, for you to be able to endure all the potential roadblocks that may come along the way.

Thank you. If nursing program doesn't help to legalize, it may help to get a job in any other country or hometown if someone decide to come back. The good thing is that nursing program from USA is accepted in many countries.

Very true. You can take your degree almost anywhere and get a job. Good luck with whatever path you decide to take..
