Here comes a bit of a long story and I'll try to keep it short… hopefully.

Both my sister and I applied for DACA on November. We both were approved on February; she got her card on the same month whereas mine took an extra month (blame it on shitty USPS). Anyway, since we got our cards on different dates, she applied first for SSN. Four days later, I applied. That is the 04th and 8th of March respectively.

While we were applying, they told us they needed to verify our documents with immigration and it would take up to 4 weeks. Even though I read several threads where people would get printouts of their SSN by calling them a few days after applying, I didn't bother to call because I didn't want to go into a hassle again (I went through a very frustrating problem I mentioned after my EAC had been mailed) besides I wasn't in a rush. Now, it is practically already a month and I have not heard anything about neither my sister's SSN or mine.

I have a trip coming up in a week and half and I had no idea I could apply for the state ID without the SSN ... UGH! I will call tomorrow morning.

So here are my questions:

1) In the event SSN tells me my application hasn't been verified yet. What do I do? Call USCIS? Wait more?
2) I've read that people who have applied for the state ID, they can request a copy (temporary ID) so they can start using it until the real one arrives. Could I use this copy and leave my EAC at home for the checkpoint in Falfurrias?
3) Is it true our SSNs won't be added to the main database after a year or so and thus returning an "invalid error" everytime employers check ours when applying for a job? In that case, what have you done? I haven't found any thread resolving this issue other than calling the three main corporations in charge of that process.

So let me get this straight, are they holding on to your original documents? If so I see no reason why they should be holding on to them unless you were an applicant who mailed in the SSA application. Regardless, it should not have taken more than 2-3 weeks to hear back from them whether a walk-in or main-in.

Give them a call as soon as possible, as this could be a clerical error. Hopefully all the paper work is done and it is just a matter of shipping it out to you.

1.) The process should be a straight forward give a name, show the receipt if you have it.

2.) Yes, you may. It is a valid State ID.

3.) This seems to be the case happening with some people. However, the SSN is solely for tax and identification purposes (to run background checks and the like). The SSN is still a valid SSN that can be used to file taxes. This is an issue than needs to be clarified with Human Resources, though.

I have read of some users needing to work directly with the companies that run the background checks, like lexisnexus, to resolve the issue.

Get a hold of SSA! I believe in the receipt they give you there's a number you can call if you don't want to go to the office personally. You need to find out if they've already sent it and if they sent it to the right address. I haven't heard of anyone here that has gone through this.

2) I've read that people who have applied for the state ID, they can request a copy (temporary ID) so they can start using it until the real one arrives. Could I use this copy and leave my EAC at home for the checkpoint in Falfurrias?
Not sure about this one.

3) Is it true our SSNs won't be added to the main database after a year or so and thus returning an "invalid error" everytime employers check ours when applying for a job? In that case, what have you done? I haven't found any thread resolving this issue other than calling the three main corporations in charge of that process.

If it turns out to be an invalid error then the agency that is running the background checks will notify you. Make sure that when you are applying to jobs you write down the number of the agency (just in case) if not you can always ask your future employer for it.

There's several agencies that run background checks it just depends on the company you are going to work for. I got an e-mail notifying me that my SSN was either invalid or incorrect and it stated to call them (the agency) and fix it. All they did was ask me if the info I had given out was correct (it was) and then they asked me if I had ever used any other names I said yes just my first and last. I also mentioned that my SSN is new and they said that was probably the reason why it wasn't clearing. Anyways, I'm working now so it's no biggie just fix it ASAP. Good luck!

I got the same type of letter as well---saying that it might take 4 weeks to verify. I'm worried as well. Lord...when will this worrying end.

Well this should've been sorted out.. Get in contact in case it was some kind of error on their end. I was able to get a state ID as a walk-in right away.
