I'm curious what you guys show when a border patrol agent requests to identify yourself at a checkpoint.

I always show both my EAC and DL for fear of being questioned more than if I simply showed my DL only.

What do they say after you identify yourself?

It varies from agent to agent. I've had the following:
  • Traveling with friends on car - Agent asks who's an American citizen. Agent collects IDs from everyone. When it's my turn, he looks at my IDs, checks my face and then he gives them back to me.
  • Traveling alone on bus - Agent asks whether I'm an American citizen. I say no but provide automatically both EAC and ID. He then asks where I'm headed. I respond. He asks what I'm going there for. I respond. He asks where I live. I respond. He asks when I was born. I respond. No further questions.
  • Traveling with sister on bus - Agent approaches my seat and asks whether I'm an American citizen. I say no but provide automatically both EAC and ID. No further questions.

The thing is, I've never just showed my DL. So I wouldn't know what that would be like.

That's pretty interesting. When you are with more people, they seem to not care as much.

I live in Texas. They hardly ever ask for any documents or ask any further questions when they see my EAD

protip: Don't live in south texas near the border, cause they are going to think you hopped over it 5 min ago.
