I've been applying to several scholarships lately. I was told by my adviser that having the FAFSA information in the school's system could potentially help me get chosen for private scholarships. I read through the forums and found out that it was possible to send in an application. From what I understood we just had to write 000-00-0000 in the SS box. However, FAFSA returned my whole packet because I "failed to provide [a] Social Security Number..." I'm planning on calling them tomorrow to see what I can do.

Has this happened to anyone here?

I had the same problem and when I called they said that you need a SS# or else you don't apply.
Sorry.

This is ridiculous. Stop giving this person stupid advice.

You CAN fill out the FAFSA, I know many people who did. It gives schools a chance to review your financial situation and perhaps award you money from their own funds. Did you call them and ask why it was sent back?

And make sure that you did not check that you are seeking Federal Aid on your application.

Look, get this Clear...you can fill it out but do NOT send it to the Government, It should only be sent your institution of higher learning! Again, NOT the Government but YES to your school!

Yes, Once your school receives the application they can put you into thier own system and see which state and private scholarships you can qualify based on your own financial needs. But No Federal aid is available for undocumented residents
