I'm sick and tired of this "there's no racists" argument. Being white, my bosses or some of my neighbors or even some strangers I start a convo with... do say racist things about others. Of course they confess it to me because they think I'm one of them and I won't be offended...

This janitor I met at my job was whispering to me... "I can't believe this place elected this (N word) for president, this fucking communist, them fucking dirty animals..." and then he saw that I wasn't responding, and he said "you know that this is the greatest country right?"... I'm like "yea sure"

my boss same shyt... "hey Alex, look at these fucking dirty looking day laborers, no wonder nobody wants these spics here"

a convo I had with my landlord a few months back was like "Alex, let me tell you, these fking (N word) just want reparations for the b/c suffering they had during slavery.

Idk man I've just been in many situations were I didn't want to respond to these things, so I just tried changing the subject. It's funny though how they would only admit this with their own kind.

Personally, I've been taught to look at people individually, cause If my race or my ethnicity was the one I could only rely on, then they wouldn't had screwed me over so many times..

tell me what you think...

Racism is very much alive today. Totally agree with you.

Wow. Me as a Mexican-American I don't really witness racism to that extent. At least not from my family or any other Hispanics that I speak to on a daily basis. We sometimes joke around about other races and their stereotypes, but in a no-pun-intended kinda way. You know what I mean??

I've actually been wanting to start a thread about this topic too.

About whether or not the people who oppose our cause are in fact racist or not. Of course they say they are not; their counterarguments to our cause is that "America is a nation of laws", "there's a correct way to come into this country", "they are draining our economy." But I have very little doubt that behind all of this is in fact racism.

White people (who are really just about the only ones who oppose) simply cannot accept the fact that another race has started to spring up and make its presence known. And sometimes, sheer hate enters the minds of people. They simply cannot stand it when they hear somebody speaking Spanish or dressing in a way representing their indigenous country.

Fueling this is also a very large degree of selfishness. All these people care about is receiving (cheap labor, goods from other places, services, etc.) but when it comes to giving... They well know that if it was not for immigrants, Americans here would not be able to survive one day. Immigrants, legal or not, serve others and provide so much that they essentially are the backbone of this country.

The way we all live in this world today is due to people and nothing else. It could all change if we all wanted it to and we would actually have peace in this world. If people would not fight, torment, and most of all hate each other, we would be fine. It is so sad to say that we will not see that ever in this world, under this society. Hate and racism are horrible things. Don't ask me why they exist, because I do not know.

Some people have their own ways of thinking, which I can never understand. America united? America peaceful? Not when you have people like this publicizing their twisted ideas and people who mindlessly follow them.

There is always going to be racism it's been played down but it's never going to end as long as everyone is different. Like my friends always play around with it like I'm Brazilian and illegal so we joke about that, my friend is black so we joke about what we hear Kat Williams says about black people, and I have a Mexican friend that we joke on all the time but we do it with humor and no intent to be harmful. Unfortunately, living in the south I hear it for the purpose to harm and it's horrible white people don't like anybody, black people don't like white people, mexicans don't like black people and vice-versa.

Racism is ingrained in our genes as a survival mechanism, yet another instinct that is now useless that we actually have control of. It is a fear of losing your identity as someone belonging to a group with common traits which guarantees you greater chances of survival. Segregation, just like racism as a byproduct, are inevitable and will always accompany us through human history, just look at schools and prisons, where more animalistic attitudes are prevalent, in these places your chances of success are greater if you band yourself with your kind of people.

I don't blame people who are racist because people in general just feel more secure around someone who through the same skin color tells them that they may share a common culture. The problem with racism occurs when people portray their fears in the form of intolerance, so in reality it all comes down to being respectful and granting others equal opportunities. I don't care how racist a person is, just stay classy and don't make it noticeable.

I have mixed feelings about affirmative action policies because while they give people belonging to certain groups opportunities to better themselves, at the same time they undermine the applicant from being a regular person, essentially reinforcing discrimination.

If you don't want to be a sad panda, stick to your own ethnic group. I hang out with people of different races but that's only because nerds see past that shit.

this is a true story... back in August of 07' when ICE came to my house at 5am. I will remember 1 thing. there were 5 officers, 3 white fat asses and 2 Spanish guys. MY mom started bursting into tears that morning b.c it all came so suddenly. There was this short chubby Latino ICE officer who started tearing in the middle of my living room. The other bastards said "come on lets go, time to go home"... I remember till this day. When they took us to the detention facility, the chubby little Spanish ICE agent told my mom "try your best and fight this case, we came to get you because the pencil just happen to strike a check mark next to your name, just try and do your best to stay and don't worry..." He didn't have to say all that and obviously it was against hes protocol; but he did say it because he is a good person.. and he wasn't even my own kind.

and that meant allot to me, because that day I had only hatred toward the people of this country. selfish or not; that's how I felt.

Exactly, most commonly people who develop a NEED to interact with people of different cultures usually because of their lifestyle, linguists, scientists, engineers, businessmen, social scientists, the list goes on.

Banished, the whites will stand with their own kind as long as the interests is the same... when they have different interests; they will cut their throats... its the common interest that binds most people, not the color of the skin; though its a good start.

if I don't want to be a sad panda, I would stick to the people who share a common interest with me...

as far as affirmative action goes... the best gets the job, black white or purple, only then there will be equality and everyone will feel competitive against each other...

common interest > common culture...
