(Oh, I'm not trying to single you out VJB2...but seriously folks, it's as easy picking up the phone and asking a simple question to verify.)

EDIT:

Oh by the way, from most of the shit I've gotten in the mail from Capital One, they offer poor interest rates or have annual fees. BOOOO. The last one I got though is decent so I might sign up. But I don't see a difference between CitiCard / BoA Card or an "official" credit card company such as Capital One. They are ALL still credit cards no matter what. Oh except those stupid American Express "charge" cards, where you pay the balance you owe in full at the end of the month. (But maybe it has greater rewards that I don't know about.)

EDIT #2:

I just called Citibank credit card and asked if an ITIN substitute for an SSN is okay. The lady said (and I quote) "That will be fiiiine." Anyone else need me to call any numbers? ICE perhaps to ask them if their refridgerator is running?

WOAH! Thanks for all of that information, and especially that link with all of the shady things Capital One does.

You did everything from online?
Yea no problems. I got it a couple of days ago and I already activated and everything. I haven't used it though. Is the platinum one for people with no credit, just fill out the online application and use your ITIN where they ask for your SSN.

^My mom couldn't get one from Capital One either, I don't know why yet until they send her the report.

I applied for my Student Visa Card online and it was accepted by using my ITIN. Since everything I've used my ITIN with has worked, I believe that an ITIN can be basically used for anything a SSN could be used for except for working with.

how did you guys get bank accounts with BoA? what was the process like? i talked to an online rep and he told me that illegal aliens coulnt' get accounts (granted, he always wrote immigrants as immigrint for some reason. so maybe he's just retarded).
really, the only thing I need is to be able to cash a (multiple) check(s). how can i do that?

and to be honest, i really don't feel comfortable getting an ITIN. so if there's any way to do it without it, it'd be even better (i have an expired passport. idk if that'll work)

^^LOL....if you are Mexican you can get an account with BoA with the matricula consular.
You can probably get one with your passport and some recent ID's. I got my account with the matricula and a couple of school ID's.

You need the ITIN, no way around it.

you're wrong.

You have to go to the bank and talk to their manager. They usually know what to do. You only need an ID (matricula, passport, etc.) and your school ID if you want to open a student account.

How I got my BofA Credit card:

1. First I opened a checking account with BofA. (I used my itin, consular ID card, and student ID card)

2. A couple months later, I went to that same BofA branch and applied for a credit card.

3. I provided $99 as a security deposit for a card with a $500 credit limit that charges a $29 annual fee with a 20% interest rate.

4. Since my account was in good standing(no late fees, over the limit credit, etc), 9 months later, they gave me my $99 security deposit back and raised the credit limit to $1,000.
