Hi,

I was reading in your post information about collecting stories. Here at the NYSYLC we have been collecting stories nationwide and also statewide of dream students and have included them in our legislative visits.....

Click below for sample template in our website

http://www.nysylc.org-a.googlepages.com/yearbook

This past June 18th, a 100 of us went to DC as part of a mock graduation and had the opportunity to drop by the offices and tell our personal stories to NY congressional reps. Here is a photo!

Do not feel unencouraged to become involved with a community group or coalition to advocate on behalf of the DREAM ACT[/img]

did you get to meet with senators? and if not, is there anyway you can meet with senators? more specifically, the sponsors of dream (other than durbin) to try to get them to be proactive in introducing the bill?

if you're an org, you'd think that you have more of an effect.

Hey, Marisol, thank you for showing us your work. Yes, local groups have people with a lot of experience and they can empower us more than if we are on our own. I am going to ask you for a little favor...can you upload your pictures in this thread:

That would be awesome!

Hi my name is Amy and I represent the UCLA’s Asian American/Pacific Islander Leadership and Strategies In Building Community course.

We created a website for our final project for this class. It's pretty much still under construction but it is meant to be an AAPI online community and informational website for undocumented, AB540 students and those who believe in the Dream Act . It's main focus is on the sharing of personal stories because that has been the emphasis of our leadership class. Also, we've learned and noticed how important stories are because it is through our personal stories that we begin to figure out who we are and in the end, what we are living for. We also begin to understand and see that we are not all that different from each other.

So if you are an Asian American or Pacific Islander... come check us out and tell us your story. If you have any suggestions, feel free to e-mail me as well. You can be in college, or high school.

This website is not meant to steal anyone away from this forum. We just wanted to hear your stories! So, if you have a story to share, we'd love to hear it! thanks so much There is already one major story that our class got to hear. You guys will probably relate to it and it's a great story to read and see that someone is out there trying to get the Dream Act passed and is out there for you! She has been grateful enough to tell the story to us in class and I would like to share it with you.

So... come check us out Don't hesitate to start writing under AAPI Stories and AAPI Conversations!!

It is almost Fourth of July in 2008 and it seems this idea was indeed a very good one, b/c the DREAM act did in fact reach the senate floor in October of last year. I'm sure all of your efforts made a significant difference is influencing the twnety or so senators that voted for the bill.

As much as it is encouraging, the cold fact is that it is well into the year 2008 and I have personally not heard of anything being done as far as reintroducing the bill to the senate.

Nevertheless, I have no doubt in my mind that I will gain citizenship one or another. I want to help others like me to do so as well. For now, this is my life goal. This is my dream.

Also, Guys:

I wanted to let everyone know that

You can use this website to email the current President and your State's leaders about the Dream Act: http://polish-ny.com/dreamact/?page_id=21

They even have the letter already written for you! - Although I recommend modifying it to make it more Personal

You can choose to email or print out the letter and mail it yourself, or have it hand-delivered by FedEx!

Get everyone you know to join you in writing your city's Representatives, and inform any Immigration groups you're familiar with about it!

You can Email them Every DAY if you want!!!

Everyone can have a big part in this, REMEMBER: there's strength in numbers!!!

ALSO, DON'T FORGET:

Please Send out your letters to Obama's office THIS WEEK:

You can mail or Fax him:

Chicago Office
John C. Kluczynski Federal Office Building
230 South Dearborn St.
Suite 3900 (39th floor)
Chicago, Illinois 60604

(312) 886-3506
