We have to come together NOW to make a difference. The lot of us aren't political analysts or a political science major. Most of us probably don't even know how the judicial system works. Which is why we need to raise awareness and become educated, so that we can actually use our knowledge to make a positive change. So let's here it. What's the best way to approach this??

Ok if you say so, but we have all seen and know what has happen in the past with ANY immigration related issue and the United States congress,anti-illegal immigration groups will fight till the end to bring us own down in and election year like 2006 and this year and even more in a census year in which more seat will me given in the House base on that, so we need to take the chance when its given cause it does not hapeen often and that's 2009 NO ELECTIONS SENATE OR HOUSE.

It is obvious that we can expect a New President will lay the foundation for what he would like to legislate through the Congress in '09,but I think it is a bit premature to expect anything immigration related actually going through the Congress in said time period.I think everyone should be patient until after the elections to see what we have to work with.It is the only real way to know what dynamic we'll have to overcome in the Congress to get Dream act passed in the 111th,in the meantime it is crucial in getting US citizen friends & family members & their friends to vote for Pro-legalization candidates come this November.

Remember, most of the Congressional seats available this Fall that could possibly be won by Democrats are mainly Republican & are still likely to be conservative districts. Most projections I've seen currently place Obama better than a 40% chance of winning the Presidency compared to 15% for McCain,Democrats having ~54-56 Senate seats excluding the 2 independents & a House Majority of ~245+ seats in the House after the election.

The projections look good only for Democrats, but what does it do for us ?

Anyway,I agree that if the Dream act doesn't pass in the next Congressional cycle it could set back the majority of those going to college currently & those that have finished back a generation at least, which could lead to seriously looking at other countries or going back to their countries of origin.

In your post you said "never"... That's what I disagree with.. I know that immigration reform has to pass eventually, however long it takes. I seriously don't think they will let this problem go unsolved for another 8 years after the new president is elected.

On immigration, it doesn't matter who wins the presidency, of course, I would like to see Obama win. Both Sen. McCain & Sen. Obama support the Dream Act and CIR. Remember, Sen. McCain is a border state senator, if he becomes president, he will be pressured by both sides to solve the immigration problem ASAP, just like President Bush. President Bush has always been for CIR, but not his Republican friends. The key is in the Senate, the Democrats need to get at least four more seats so CIR or the Dream act can be addressed next year, right now it's lookin good for Democrats. Unfortunately, the worse this year gets with the economy, gas prices, & the war, the more it favors the Democrats

Maybe I am wrong but I don't think anti-illegal immigration groups will allow immigration reform that includes the Dream act, and also provision to legalize all other immigrants, I think the best we are going to get with the new president are Dream act, AgJOBS, H1B visa, and more border enforcement.

The Dream act and AgJOBS would legalize around 5 million.

even anti-immigration groups opposed immigration reform bill or DA/AGJOBS, but this problem is serious problems. if the congress oppose it again and again, it still need to pass for current situation.

Mine too. I'm hoping she runs again and wins in 2016 after Obama's 2 terms (crosses fingers). Reagan was 69 when he was elected so I don't see why a woman can't do the same (she would be 67 during the 2016 campaign).

Oh and I forgot to add that Nixon lost in a very close contest to Kennedy in 1960 (ironically, some say it was the Daley Chicago Machine that gave Kennedy his margin of victory) and later won in 1968, and of course, McCain ran against Bush in 2000 and won the nomination in 2008 so there's precedent there.
