well i could hear it now, but its not a thread on how to get one, just a quick question about it. so my ITIN app got approved, from what i heard on this forum in the past that they give you a card? with your itin on it. well i just got a letter from the irs, and it was just a piece of paper, that stated that my app was approved and then stated my itin number. and all this other rules how its not for work purposes blah blah blah.

I believe they no longer issue cards anymore, apparently they were being used as a form of id ala the social security card. Naturally some people got pissy about it and that was the end of that. At least that's what i believe happened, if someone wants to fact check me go right ahead.

Thats it, there's no card. We just called it a card. The ITIN number is on the perforated part of the letter and it has your name and number written on it. Just tear out the perforated part and keep it. You can choose to keep the rest of the letter or not.

I'd recommend that you laminate the perforated part, so it stays safe and doesn't wear down.

I've had mine for years now, and it's not a card. It's just a green paper stating my ITIN.
