...because he is a permanent resident and if he becomes a U.S. Citizen....i AUTOMATICALLY become a U.S. Citizen... (since im under 18 )

Sometimes I think that he doesnt really care about my future...because
if he did...he would have actually started making an effort to become a
citizen.

I have *begged* him and tried to help him with his english and U.S. History...but he just doesnt want to cooperate.

oh and I have a question too.....

my dad did get me a social security card/number when i was just a baby...
but it says that im not allowed to work with it....
does that mean i am actually not undocumented? or am i still illegal even though i have social security number? (and its not a fake #)
would anyone happen to know what this means?
it would mean ALOT, thanks ppl.

That does mean that you actually are undocumented. It also means that you're illegal even though you have an SSN...even though its not a fake.

back in the day the Social Security Administration use to give out SSN's so that you could file taxes etc. Your card probably has a big "Not Valid for Employment" stamp on it. All of this means you can't legally work, however, you can still use the number for other purposes, i.e. school applications, credit cards etc.

I may be missing something, but if your dad is a permanent resident, can he not petition you, assuming you're not married? And if he became a citizen, it would be even better...does he not realize how much that would help your situation?

If he can naturalize, why don't you help him fill out the form and file it. If money is a problem, you can waive the fee.

I wonder the same...instead of waiting for him to Naturalize & then petition it would be much better if he petitioned for both Naturalization & for Permanent residency for her as well.Naturalization can take anywhere from 12-15 months today.

Being under 18 & having a Permanent resident parent is more than enough to have a petition done now, should Naturalization take place at a later stage the petition can always be upgraded to reflect the petitioner's[HPGirlAna's Dad] newly found status so that a visa number[Permanent residency] would become immediately available as long as HPGirlAna entered with a valid visa or was inspected at a port-of-entry.

The only problem is that he seems like he DOESNT want to naturalize OR petition me. When i bring the subject up, he just ignores me.

I dont understand why. I've been here since I was 1 year old (now im 14) thats 13 years and not ever has he tried to petition me

This whole thing is affecting MY future...not his.
But as my mom says...
"he's always gonna be selfish, and he's never going to change"
no wonder my parents are getting seperated.

oh and to juang's comment....
ha. i guess i am "dorky"
