The transition from the paperwork to the online system contains errors and misinformation. If you're sure you're registered and you have the SS card, then write to them or call them.

To anyone that isn't 26 you should sign up with the Selective Service System, Oh and if by any chance any of you did signed up and didn't get anything in return, read very carefully the instructions on the form, since it usually takes about a month or less to get something back. I think it HAS to be black ink, all capital letters, and I think that's pretty much it. For anyone undocumented the only way I know to register is to get the form from your postal office and leave the SSN box blank.

The card you get it's useful for some things, when I applied for a State grant the selective service card was a requirement.

I already registered like over a year ago, everyone should really do it, most likely it will be a requirement in the DA too.

And don't be afraid of anything, the selective service has nothing to do with immigration really. Oh and don't try online, there isn't an online form that doesn't require a SSN.

I love the hypocrisy of the whole thing. We're not good enough to work or take advantage of the system in any way, but by golly we sure do make one great cannon fodder.

I'm not registering, at least not yet. I'm still not convinced it's a "requirement", and if it is I'll do it during my last months of the aging out process.

Well, it is a requirement. I was asked for proof of registration when I was attempting to adjust status through the USCIS interview after winning a visa from the DV lottery.

And registration doesn't mean you'll be drafted into military service. If there is a draft, you can always opt out for a variety of reasons.

It is a requirement as it falls under the "good moral character" clause. You're supposed to register after turning 18, but before 26. However, given our situation, I'd assume you'd want to meet all the qualifications as soon as possible because you never know when the DREAM Act may be passed. It's best to get things like that out of the way so you're not scrabbling to mail in the form and waiting for your Selective Service card because your interview is coming up.

In addition, pointing out how hypocritical it is for the government to require us to register to receive benefits while not understanding that it is ALL males who have to do it, not just the undocumented, is ironic itself. You want to take advantage of the DREAM Act, yet you don't want to sign up for the Selective Service until you feel all is clear? That's hypocritical.

I strongly suggest everyone here gets the Selective Service form and registers. Like RahmanV said, there are a variety of reasons on why you'd be able to pass on a draft if it happened (considering they're legit reasons).

Anyone else who feels they shouldn't register, that's fine. Follow your own road, but don't try to convince others that it isn't needed when it clearly is.

You're damn right i want to take advantage of Dream before i sign up for selective service. What has this government done for me lately, other than fuck with my life? A documented male already receives all kinds of benefits, so it's only fair to expect something in return from him. Where exactly do undocumented folk come into this equation? We're already treated like trash and non-persons by the system; adding insult to injury, now not only do they say that we'll keep you around for the slave labor, but just in case there's a war on we'll be sure to use you as meatshields as well. The only hypocrisy i see here is from the government alone.

I signed up, sent it in few months a go and never got anything back... I guess I am signed up. But if you don't sign up and you tell them you didn't know about it, will they still bar you from Dream? I am not sure if they will be that strict. Of course you don't want to take the risk, it would be foolish.
