U.S. Secretary of Commerce Urges Immigration Reform

| Washington D.C.—U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutiérrez is urging Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform this year, reports La Opinion. Gutiérrez described the current system as "entirely without practice, without a moral sense, and without a logical, economic sense." He was referring to the recent Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) raids in Postville, Iowa, which made headlines inside, and outside, the U.S. During that raid, ICE arrested 389 undocumented immigrants, the majority of whom were Latino and are currently facing deportation. In the absence of a comprehensive immigration reform, Gutiérrez asserted that state and local governments must take their own measures to combat the hiring of undocumented workers. Gutiérrez will meet with members of Congress next week in Atlanta, Georgia to discuss immigration reform . |

I wish it could happen this year, but their is no way in this world they are going to address a hot button issue like immigration with less than 20 legislative days left after they get back from vacation.
