^^^ I'm so happy you're going to be an immigration lawyer, b/c I can't think of anyone more qualified. Lord knows the field of immigration law needs competent and compassionate lawyers, so people can stop getting turned away simply b/c of a mistake their lawyer made. Yay!

I know a month is quite a while we've been down to the SS office several times. We have gotten the 'welcome letter' where it has a sorta case number where you can check on the status of the green card but not the SS. Last time he went they told us that immigration had sumbitted his name wrong (left out his 2nd last name) and they had to fix it. Rawr. They said to check back this week so tomorrow he's going to call again.. There were 10 people on my forum who got approved the same day we did and only half have gotten the SS. Some have the SS but no green card and others have the green card but no SS. Just another example of how lovely and consistent the immigration system is
I dare say it seems you have been given an epiphany.I'm glad that during that time you were 99.9 % sure to start the process instead of waiting on the Dream act to pass.

The SSA office shouldn't be much of a problem, but I've realized so far from experience that the DMV is definitely much worse than immigration, talk about a bureaucracy. The Real ID requirements are absolutely ridiculous just to get an ID or DL if you have status.

Anyway,Congratulation yet again !

My heartiest congrats to you taskgirl and your hubby. You have proven today that love and hard work triumphs everything.
I haven't logged on here for a long time and this is the best piece of news that could happen to anybody I know.
You are well aware of my story that my spouse is a USC but me and my kids can't get papers cos we entered without permit.I feel its easier to get a waiver for Mexico than for an asian country.More chances of it being rejected.
But we are all hanging in there....and working hard to elect Obama and rest of the democrats.DREAM has to pass next year.
Again loads of good wishes to you and your family.

Update! He finally got his SS number, green card, and FINALLY a driving permit!! It is SO surreal neither of us EVER thought this would happen to us ! It doesn't feel real, not even close .. When he drives I still keep getting afraid when I see a cop .. even though I have nothing to be afraid of !!

Tasksgirl, I sent you a PM asking for advice for my cousin who in November will leave with her husband for Ciudad Juarez just like you and your husband did. I got a message saying that your file was full and that you could no longer receive any more messages. I would really appreciate it if you could do something about this. (I apologize in advance to everyone because this is probably not the right place to post this, but I don't have any other way of contacting Tasksgirl.)

LOL my husband is such a loser.. we fought about that picture.. I took a first "happy visa picture" of him in CDJ the day after the approval when we were about to travel to the border. But we had been fighting a bit (money and not knowing how we were gonna cross the border - long story) and he had NO smile at all. So after we crossed the border and had driven all the way to Houston I made him pose at for that at 5/6am in the hotel in Houston.. rofl.. I was mad I hadn't gotten one that same day.. but I do have one of the paper he got saying he was approved.. that one was taken the actual day I should post that instead LOL
