We should try to push a stand alone version of the DREAM Act in the first 90 days so it don't get tied up in immigration reform again. Let's not even wait till Obama takes office on January 20, let's start on January 3 the start of the 111th congress.

I am excited with a healthy dose of worried. If CIR passes, then we don't need DREAM, but CIR itself is much harder to pass than DREAM. I think we should go the DREAM route, advocating for that and doing our best to get it passed, and then go for CIR.

I think we should contact Rep Gutierrez and tell him to try to push for the Dream
Act on its own first as a test if the dream act passes which i am 80% sure it will
then he could go ahead with giving CIR act a try

I think this is a great idea because lately Gutierrez has been pushing for CIR or nothing at all. He's really opposed to piecemeal. We need him on our side.

That would never happen since Rep. Gutierrez would only be a junior Senator for the State he is representing should he be appointed, not to mention Durbin has exclusive sponsorship on Dream act within the Democrat's Party in the Senate at least. We already have not only a sponsor for Dream act in the Senate, but also one that will have a lot more power in the new Congress as the Majority Whip & he has showed in the past that he is more than willing to fight for Dream act.

Although I applaud Rep. Gutierrez for his position we have our own & should focus on Dream act alone[isn't that what this site is for] & forget CIR for the moment.I think we're also getting ahead of ourselves with getting Dream act in the first 100 days just because the Democrats won the elections.Remember, only the Democrats won the elections.

The real question is how or what do we have to do to effectively relay our position to them when the country & governing party will be facing so many other important issues......

I think they are going to try to pass it together again no matter what -- better use political capital all at once on an iffy issue rather than have it come up twice ... that's the political thinking behind it at least.
