Giffords said she expects Congress to eventually revisit immigration reform, which likely would include a pathway to legalization or citizenship for potentially millions of undocumented migrants. Two Arizonans could be crucial to a revised immigration policy and other issues critical to Arizona: McCain, who is returning to the Senate after nearly two solid years on the presidential campaign trail, and Gov. Janet Napolitano, who is joining Obama's administration as Homeland Security secretary. McCain last week said he still supports immigration reform and intends to discuss it with Obama. "McCain is a very important element, and he was really busy campaigning the last couple of years. But he's got tremendous clout and gets a lot of respect," said Giffords, whose congressional district voted for McCain over Obama on Nov. 4. |
