Looking to 2010, Senate Leader Reid Hopes to Avoid Daschle’s Fate
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cf...999017&cpage=2

"Reid also will focus on reaching out to the state’s sizeable Hispanic population, which trended heavily toward Obama this year. Summers said Reid and Obama have discussed moving comprehensive immigration legislation, probably in late 2009."

I do not think it is a good idea to have dream within CIR legislation, hopefully will get Dream before the senate takes up CIR.

Well since Immigration is now a priority in the Senate I believe it is plausible to see a package actually pass late in the year if the House follows course.Everything else now rest with Pelosi & the House.

I wouldn't be so sure abt senate passing CIR. Remember what happened in 2007. Those asshole senators are still there. Why bad things never happens to Session or Vitte or others? Why can't they be caught being gay or seducing a boy or trying to sell America? In fact, we lost a senators that supported our cause like chuck hagel, Lott and obama (I don't know what would happen to that seat). I wish people would forget abt CIR, talk abt dream act.

Dream with CIR is not a good idea. They should try Dream first. If they cannot even pass Dream, why waste time trying to pass CIR?

okay, so i know this sounds naive and all,
but i really need to geuss or even speculate
i have to apply to medical school this june, and i must have at least a work permit or the sign that i qualify for dream act which has turned into a law.
do you think there is any chance that dream will pass by june?

Strangely, I am in the exact same position. I'm currently a junior and want to apply for medical school before the October deadline this fall.

I think it just depends on how congress wants to move. I really do hope it can be passed April/May, but I don't like hoping. Realistically I don't know.

Actually, the DA would have to pass earlier than that, because it could take up to 6 months after it passes to actually apply for it.

The harder part will be where to apply. I doubt amcas or tmdsas will update their 2010 application if the dream act passes, so we would have to be classified as other under international student. That eliminates most public schools, unless you live in Texas, so you have to look to private schools; public schools take very few international students. I hope you have a extremely strong gpa (3.8-4.0) and do well on your mcat(35+), because it will be tough to get in even if you able to apply. I'm talking about Harvard, Baylor, JHMS, etc.

I can give you info about what I will be planning, but I want to talk to advisors of schools to get my info correct. If worst comes to worst, there will be next year. Sigh...

i know i'm digressing but,
i don't mind waiting for the next year, during an extra year i coud repair my GPA and do more extra curricular activities
i'm sure you know this already, but 90% of the medical school applicants apply early june.
if you apply late, they do rolling application process and put you in wait list
it's mostly first come first serve
so if you didn't know, you should apply in june.
i've been in this forum for a while, and i did know that it takes 6 months after the law was passed before we could apply for it, and then more time after we recieve the conditional green card.
it's just that i am already a fifth year, if i apply this june, it's already late, if i have to wait till next year, then.....
you gotta do what you gotta do right?
