This is one of those issues on which it's slightly more difficult to make people change their minds, I think. Just like you or I do not hate immigrants and do not blame them for everything bad that that ever happens, some of these people do.

That being said, the new Senators are the most important and (possibly) the very few who voted "nay" but show that there is a possibility they will change their vote.

nah vaevictis, i know exactly what you mean, and yes, i do think we should have such a section.

But i dont my thread needs much secrecy, i mean what are the ALIPAC going to do, intercept our letters? hehe

What about you VaeVictis? who do you think i should contact? it seems like you are quite well informed about the whole situation

Check your PM. I think you'll like your advice.

Arlen Spector the senior Republican senator from PA was in favor of CIR but voted against DREAM cos he doesn't want any piecemeal legislation.I am sure there are others who feel like him.We gotta convince them too.

Dear Mr. :

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the recent legislative activity concerning the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2007 or the "DREAM Act". I appreciate hearing your concerns and opinions on this very important issue.

The DREAM Act would provide a path to citizenship for students who have graduated from high school and have been accepted into an American college or who choose to join the military. On October 24, 2007, the United States Senate had a procedural vote to determine whether or not we should proceed to debate on the DREAM Act. I voted no on this motion to proceed because I believe this country is facing an immigration crisis that requires a more comprehensive solution. Any immigration bill that is considered by the Senate should be comprehensive, because going forward in a piecemeal approach does not solve the current crisis we face. I remain hopeful that Congress will take up a more thorough immigration bill next year.

Thank you again for contacting my office regarding this very important issue. Should you have any other questions please feel free to contact my office again, or I invite you to visit my website at www.specter.senate.gov .

Sincerely,

Arlen Specter
