I took that route when I went to Seattle, and during the trip the attendant was talking to the guy in the row next to mine and she said Ice does check there randomly since in certain points we do come close to the Canadian border but I guess I was lucky. I remember when I heard her say that I go so paranoid for the rest of the trip, she ruined it. But there is some beautiful landscapes to see, even better if you go during winter.

The problem with this however is that school ID is valid only for so long. When you finish school this is where the real problems start to begin when everyone starts asking you for ID.

i traveled from Cali to NYC last year, had no problems but on my way back from nyc i had to take the Lake Shore Limited, which always has ICE come on, i was lucky enough that they did'nt even look at me, but they were hassling some mexican family. Amtrak is pretty chill, just dont travel by Lake Shore Limited.

Instead of checking out whether you´ll get "CAUGHT (as if you were a criminal)" for just moving from one place to another, I´d advise you to move your whole-self somewhere else where you´ll be appreciated for what you are; that is a human being, maybe even a respectable one. I, as probably you did, moved to the US with my parents when I was underage. I graduated from high school back in 2004 with above average grades... and I had enoguh. I grew sick and tired of that look over people´s shoulder look when they found out about my legal status. The worst part is that I felt bad about not being a "legal" human being, it was a psychological nuke for me back then. Awhile after graduation, I decided that I wouldn´t sit on my butt and wait on what-people-like-to-call-God to provide me with an opportunity to go on with my studies. I booked a flight to Spain, went to the local police station, filled out some application papers and I had my tarjeta de residencia (that´d be a green card over there) a few days later. A few years later I´m about to graduate from the university and I´ll pursue a master´s degree the next year. I´ve been working legally as well, and I, of course, have been able to obtain scolarships as any other young human being who is trying to study. I´m not saying everything is perfect on this side of the ocean. But as someone who´s lived in three continents in the span of 22 years, I can say that there´s definitely life outside of the US borders. And one last thought; sometimes I hear pro-americans justify the US wars in the name of freedom. Supposedly there´s no other place on Earth where people enjoy more freedom in their lives. Oh well... when I got off the plane and turned on a tv, I sort of felt nauseas when I saw the news... the accounts of the war were totally different from what I´d heard back in the US. Dear human being... censorship still exists in your country. And going back to freedom... take a glance at yourself... wondering if it´s safe for you to take a train. Regards from Europe and my best wishes for yoy all. By the way I´m glad the democrats won the elections guys- let´s hope he and his people can REALLY change something.

If DREAM doesn't pass this year, I have a feeling many of us will be doing what you did. As of now, though, we're staying put.

We should get this thread back on topic now...

If I decided to travel by plan, will my Passport be valid? It has an expired visa in 2004 as well as my I-94. Does ICE work at a state airport?

I like traveling by airplane and chatting up border patrol and homeland security all the time. It is great fun. Just a couple days ago, I was at the Int. Terminal at LAX and spoke to Homeland Security at McDonald's about their great TV show. It's awesome. Try it sometimes.

traveling is very risky no matter how you're traveling but its more realistic for ICE to get on a train or a bus then to raid a whole plane so I think flying could be safer.. I flew from Orlando, FL to Newark, NJ and I just showed my foreign passport and didnt have any kind of interactions with any kind of authority after that.

as for alexgaudino, if dream doesnt pass this year then, like ark said, we'll probably be doing what you did... I have 3 choices I need to really sit down and think about.. 1) go back to colombia, 2) go to spain, or 3) go to canada.

by the way, is it really that easy to become legal in Spain?

In my opinion it is. Because, once you're on that airplane, no one will check your status.

Guys, keep in mind that just because you were fine traveling from wherever to wherever, doesn't mean that this route is safe. It's very close to the Northern border.
