I see what you mean. And yeah, i don't have that luxury either. BUT! I think as long as you can get your foot in the door, some private schools that are well-endowed and open to internationals will be willing to help. Texas even offers state financial aid if you got three years of HS education there or something. Many schools have institutional scholarships!

Anyway, I think as long as you can get an acceptance, there is a way. Heck, if there comes to a point where we have to write to wealthy strangers for help, a MD acceptance will come in handy.

Also, as long as you can get a USC co-signer, you can get loans.

basically, we just have to keep the hope alive, work extra hard to have spectacular stats against all the additional challenges, and pray that it'll happen. My view is just that we have to try and I've heard of ppl making it so there must be a way.

I am no expert but I think people should really be careful with graduate schools. It seems that most graduate programs require internships and some kind of teaching practicum to be completed. You don't want to be stuck without being able to graduate.

I do agree that it is worth applying in times like this because it seems the dream act is very close to being passed. Worst comes to worst, you can take all the classes on the fisrt year and take a leave until the act passes--I think this is better than waiting.

My main concern is that medical school specially is very expensive and people in our situation won't have the funds to pay for it.

This isn't really something that should be too much of a worry. The school wouldn't accept you if they knew you couldn't pass the preliminary checks. This is why you have an interview or talk to advisors before you apply.

The big hurdle is cost. They will want to make sure you can pay. Have a high gpa and mcat score, and apply to a private school. You should be able to get some sort of scholarships at some of the top schools.

Let me just say this.

Applying to medical school while being undocumented isn't something you do unless you have pretty top notch stats. You have to not only competing against everyone else, but also you have to overcome you status. If you are seriously thinking about apply while being undocumented, make sure you have 37+ MCAT (40+ to be honest), 3.9-4.0 gpa, and a good story to tell during your interview. Otherwise there is little hope. You will probably have to wait till the dream act passes so it is easier.

i am premed as well, but i am going to wait until i have applied to dream act,
which will pass this year, (it better!!!), if it doesn't apply next year,
my recommedation, he/she could work on strengthening his application, (study mcat, take classes to raise the GPA) b/c you can never have too high GPA or MCAT score.and volunteer at hospital, libraries, food banks and stuff
that's what i'm doing~~
How can you volunteer at hospitals without an SSN? I want to do that, but I don't know if anyone in our status has ever tried that. please help.
