FINALLY SOMEONE understands me...
I dont know why dreamies who are 20+ wouldnt join. if your 25 and down you should definately join. ESPECIALLY if you have a college degree. Did you know if you go in there with a B.A you would become an officer?....I honestly think that the military would be a jumpstart to our lifes. Imagine the confidence we would get. All the years of being illegal have left psycological scars, the cofidence boost would do wonders for us. AND LOOK AT ALL THE MONEY!..for a highschool graduate you can start at 1399.50 at E-1. Do You guys know how much hours you would have to put in to get that much pay in a hourly job.Not to mention your, HOusing(free DORMS),food, and school is being paid. You dont need to spend your money. Now if you hold a degree you start at 2763.60 at 0-1. Thats ALOT OF MONEy... Join the AIRFORCE OR NAVY....please dont go to the army or marines..hahah

Some people prefer to go to college and get education instead of going to Afghanistan and risk their lives.
An average educated person with an university degree could make in the private industry more then he'll make in the military. And not anyone get accepted to the Navy and the Airfoce.
If you join the military your will see that 70% of the soldiers there are in the military just to save money for college and to help their family out, you will never see a rich kid that serves in country.

Not everyone goes to Afghanistan, mostly marines and Army. If you score a 36 on the asvad you are able to join the airforce. Its amazingly easy. If you cant score that, your most likely not going to college. You can also go to college while your in the military, the Air Force has an accredited community college on base. Yeah you might make more but deduct, the mortgage, food cost, bills and taxes. Not to mention the grads who cant finds jobs. The military is an amazing opportunity. I have 2 friends in the Navy and 1 in the airforce. They love it,its taking the ordinary out of life. I for one don't want to be the richest guy in the cemetery.(life goal is to travel as much before my time comes) When they come and visit they were their uniforms, civilians always stare at our group. Its about being apart of something bigger than yourself.

In my own opinion, the military option in the bill is the only reason republicans would even consider the dream act.

I have always wanted to join the Marines since I was kid, if the DREAM act does not pass I will probably leave to France to join the French Foreign Legion. I made a promise to myself, if the DREAM ACT does not pass before I am 20 then their is nothing else for me here. Don't get me wrong I really love this countrie but I need to look at alternatives just in case they want to deport me instead of keeping me, you know.

yeah you do, thats why this thread is talking about the "2 years of military" option, instead of the "2 years of school" option ONCE/IF DREAM is passed.

What? joining the french foreign legion?

All you need is a passport, I am mexican, so the mexican embassy in almost every major city hands them out like nothing if you have your birth certificate. you make the appointment, they tell you what to bring, and you pay $100 to $200, depending for how long you want the passport for, and if you do everything and bring what they tell you they give you the passport right there. I know all this for a fact because I got my passport 5 months ago.

Now joining the French Foreign Legion, you get a plane ticket to paris (about $200 to $400), from the airport look for a taxi and tell him you want to go to Fort De Nugent, once you arrive there go the front gate and just tell them in english or spanish, what ever "I am here to volunteer for the legion", they will bring someone that speaks your language and he will ask you for your passport, they will let you in, they tell you to sit in some benches outside till they speak with the Officer that verifies all the passport to make sure they are not fake, once they know your passport is not fake they will give you a interview as to why you want to join the Legion, my cousin and his friend told him that they were joining for adventure and it seem to work. Once that is all done they will give you a medical, mental, intelligence, and physical test to see that you are ok to join (BTW you don't need a HS diploma or anything to join they just make sure you are not stupid, and they give the test in what ever language you speak.) once all that is done they will make you wait with all the other people who are trying out to join, they will select the one's that pass all the test only. If you are in good physical condition you have 50 50 on getting in, if you speak two languages you chances are higher, if you are between the ages of 17 and 25 you chances are higher, if you check on this then you will be selected, oh and the best thing you do not need to know french since everyone in the foreign legion probably is not french. they give you a contract to sign, once you sign it you are shipped to the farm(boot camp) in southern france near monaco, the training is hard and it last for 4 months, its the longest basic training of all the western militaries, after that you become a legionnaire, once your contract is up you have a choice to become a french citizen or go back to you country. I know this because my cousin and his friend joined about a year or so ago.

Why not to join.

Don't join if you are not much of a physical work person. Don't join if you are a coward, their is a 80% chance of going to combat, so the fact that you will have to kill or be killed are high. You don't get too see your family in years, so yeah. for about a year, you are not allowed to contact your family. If you sign up with a false Identity which you can, you are not allowed to talk to them at all for the years you are in the contract, it is a five year contract by the way. An most important of all forget about getting a regular job after joining the legion since you are branded to be a mercenary for the rest of your life, unless you sign up with a false Identity. the death rate is very high, 1 out of 10 that join dies before the 5 year contract is up.

The reasons why I am joining is because I was going to make a career out of the Marine Corp anyways, but if I cannot join ill make a career out of the Foreign Legion. Is not hard to join, but it is a hard life. you also get to see Europe, I seen pictures of my cousin in Italy and Paris, not saying much but I think its a good freaking good deal, oh and the pay is not bad at all. anymore questions?
