U.S. Gov't says I'm an Illegal Alien but I'm more American than apple pie.
The problem with the immigration debate is grossly problematic when citizens of the U.S.A., don't fully comprehend the arcane and inhumane rules of immigration and why should they, when your born here –
you don't have to step one foot inside the immigration department.

For what it's worth, here's my story and you tell me if the rules are fair. First, I moved here to the USA when I was 3-years old with my parents who emigrated from Western Europe. We immigrated LEGALLY on an E-2 Investor Visa. The success of the business tied directly with our ability to
continue to stay here. We were all issued LEGAL social security cards. The business failed and my parents were devastated. With no money to return home, my parents decided to pursue other avenues.

My father found an employer willing to sponsor him for a green card. I was 17. If my father was approved, as his son, I would also benefit. However, the process took YEARS and due to massive gov't backlogs, when I turned 21, immigration considered me “aged-out” while my parents received their
green card. I'm now illegal while my mom and dad are legal. I was punished for the governments slow processing times – something way beyond my control.

So, I sit here waiting for what...the proverbial knock on the front door which will destroy my life. I only speak English, have paid my taxes with my valid SSN, never been in trouble with the law, am college educated, don't have an STD and even volunteer in public life to help make our area better.

I'm illegal – I thought I was a human being. My father has applied to sponsor me for a green card, again I wait for years. And while I wait, that doesn't legalize my status in any way shape or form. I could be deported back to a country while my mom and dad live here. And to make matters worse, if I am
deported, due to immigration rules, I shall not be able to visit my mom and dad for 10-years and my parents are growing elderly.

Are these American Values?

Why are u being negative? we all are in the same or worse situation.

WOW. sounds harsh. but u have to have hope for dream. sometimes u might put urself along with other things down. and im sure other times ur very confident something good will happen. its part of being a human being with feelings and a brain. i too have been through a tough childhood and now adulthood. i do get mad, disapointed, and sad that i cant do nothing about this situation, but for some reason i know something will happen. youll see!

My friend you are not alone. I am (as are many of us) in the same situation as you. All of my family is either a citizen of have thier permament residency. I am the only one without status due to this unjust system (in my opinion it does not even merit the word "system"). Just know that you are not alone. I know all the feelings that come with it. Keep your head up high. Don't let your situation define who you are. Don't give in to what this so called system wants you to be.

I don't think he's being negative, it's just one of those days...we all have them. And sometimes you need to let it all out, and that's what he just did.


Dude...You've been waiting for years...we all have...and we're all in these situation (those who came here illegally, the ones who came legally, and all the others...) Just continue being patience...the time will soon come.

I don't think he is being negative at all. We have a broken immigration system. He is stuck up in a situation on which neither he or his parents have any fault.

If something, every single member should be angry at their situation and have a sense of urgency imprinted, not only on themselves but on their language.

I do not meant the typical "oh, poor me, need the Dream Act for next week." Rather, I am being wronged right, I must do something to fix my situation. If someone steals something valuable from you. You do not wait until they feel sorry for you and give it back. You go and do something to get your valuable.

Again, you should be angry at the situation, not nativist, not government. The whole point of this is to change our situation, not the nativist point of view or the government way of doing stuff. Some people get so angry that they just want to hurt the other side. That is also harmful. You are not getting anything just pissing off someone else.

If you do not feel a strong sense of injustice, how are you going to persuade others that your pain is real? If this is not an unbearable situation, you are just telling both the government and to allies that your problem can wait.

If you are just asking for a hand out, keep waiting. You are asking for something you do not deserve and people have to worry about their own problems before doing charity. If you are asking for a right that is denied to you, then it is unfair. It needs to be fixed and if your lack of rights is producing unbearable pain, then it needs to fixed right now.
