Hi, I have immigrated to U.S when I was 11, and I am turning 19 this year.
Although it has been 8 years, I still do not have green card.

My dad's company promised to sponsor my family,
but it went out of business around 3 years ago.
(When we only needed to wait 6 more months to finally acquire green card.)

Now, my dad is F-1 visa, and my family is barely staying in U.S with F-2 visa.
I am not sure how long this status could last...

but one thing for sure, when I turn 21, I have to make a move myself. (Since I will be no longer dependent on my family in status wise.)

So, I am trying to find a career that can be easily sponsored.

I currently live in Fullerton, CA.

Can anyone tell me what kind of studies I should pursue, so that after I become 21, I will have skills that people are more likely to sponsor?

Many said as long as I do well in my study, I will be fine.

And I did.

I received 4.3 GPA in highschool, and was nominated as one of top class student. However, I will be graduating in month and half, and I have no idea what to do after I graduate.

Help.......

T.T

My neighbor is a software engineer and went through the H1B then GC route. Even if you don't find a sponsor after your 4 year degree (you could) you can always get your masters or PhD and that puts you in another category and makes it a lot easier for you to get your GC. Hopefully, DREAM has passed by then though.

It does matter what your major is, most companies do not sponsor English Lit majors. Most H1B's are held by people in the IT field.

Since my family do not have lot of money at this time.
I was thinking more of 2-year college, or
something like vocational, technical school.
Do anyone know what field is more likely to be sponsored in 2 yr college or vocational school?

What state do you live in, you may be able to get in-state tuition.
Here is the thread where you can find out if your state offers it.

Also, how good are your grades? A couple of private colleges are pretty good at giving scholarships to outstanding students who would not qualify for federal financial aid. You can also find non-school specific scholarships on this thread.

Whoa -- I don't mean to be a jerk, but how did you manage to get a 4.3 GPA with such dismal grammar?

Here it is http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/DRE...2009-02-23.pdf
NY, CA, WA, KS, UT, IL, NE, NM, TX, and OK ( double check on OK, I don't know if that is still in place). However, people have found through experience that even if you do not live in these states that some schools in your state may make exceptions. I realize that thread is long, but if your state is not one of those listed, you should read through that thread for school specific information.

Good luck and let us know if you run into any problems. I should state that I remember one person a long time ago that had a CA school deny them instate because they mistakenly thought they were on an F1 but that was in the old days when schools were just starting to see DREAMers who qualified for in-instate go through their system. You should speak to schools and see if you still qualify for in-state on a F1. DAP members who are currently on F1s, can you help him out? You can find Carter86, he posts on here and is currently on a F1. They can give you advice on how to get an F1 for undergrad.

I haven't seen many Computer Scientists out of a Job. Material scientists do ok too, and I've heard Physicists are getting hired as well (I call BS). Chemists seem to do ok, if you are going for medicine (MD's basically always get a job), you could start w/any of the above, but it'd be easier to go w/something in biological sciences like microbiology, organic chemistry, or genetics.

Teachers do perfectly fine too...Again, you can get a BS in Engineering (any), Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, history, (don't go for art),etc... and go through the educational leveling "bs" and have in essence two degrees.

I don't recommend if you are expecting to work for a company the following:
Mech Eng.
Elec Eng. seems to be doing ok
Civil Eng.
Psychology (maybe in the private sector it could be ok, but to be honest I think there's probably too much supply for the demand `angeleno should know)
Industrial Eng<<<<<<<RUUN
Business<<<<<<<<<<<RUUUUN even further
ART<<<Unless you are 100% sure you are good(and I'm talking in terms of statistics NBA-good) don't go for drawing, sculpture, metals, ceramics, printmaking, dance, music, and/or painting. Art historians w/a PHD are in high demand though.

ART<<CGI is doing pretty good

There's other obscure ones that may be in demand such as geology, "history (not so obscure I guess), astrophysics,etc...
