It looks like the Senate has changed the date of the immigration hearing to Thursday,April 30th instead of original the Tuesday,April 28th date.It is also interesting that there is a call-in campaign by NCLR during around the same time-line & might be a good idea to push for Dream act at the same time.
Quote:
The hearing on "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2009, Can We Do It and How?" scheduled by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Refugees will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. rather than the previously scheduled date of Tuesday, April 28.

Chairman Schumer will preside.

By order of the Chairman

I know NCLR recommends to "call your senators" but obviously I believe we should focus on the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. I'll compile a list of the members and their contact #'s + zip codes by tonight.

Awesome List of Panelists:

Quote:
J. Thomas Manger
Chief of Police, Montgomery County, MD
Director, Major Cities Chiefs Association
Rockville, MD
Chief Manger spoke out against deputizing police officers for immigration issues except for violent criminals

Quote:
Speaking as legislative chairman of a group that represents the country's 56 largest police departments, Chief Manger told the committee that Montgomery County sends ICE the names of violent suspects and foreign-born inmates — but that like 95 percent of jurisdictions, Montgomery has and will continue to balk at 287g because it "undermines the trust and cooperation of immigrant communities," is too costly for most agencies and requires training that "would significantly detract from the core mission of local police to create safe communities."

Quote:
Alan Greenspan

Dr. Joel Hunter
Senior Pastor, Northland Church
Member, President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships
Longwood, FL
Rev. Hunter should be for it since he's part of the Obama Administration, and I'm guessing Mr. Greenspan is there to talk about how immigration affects the economy.

Ms. Meissner is from the non partisan Migration Policy Institute so she's probably there to give some facts on immigration. Mr. Medina is from the SEIU and will be for immigration reform.

Looks like all the panelists are either neutral or supportive for the need for immigration reform.

I'll be honest with you, if this is really his stance on immigration, then people like that make me proud to call myself American, in spite of being undocumented. He chooses to ignore that law, because he knows its unjust and serves no real purpose. Chief Manger clearly realizes that his mission is the safety of people people in his jurisdiction, instead of worrying about some dumb politics that are meant to draw votes.

Honestly, instead of spending money on another ICE officer whose only job is to participate in raids, the government could easily hire 2 police officers that would do a lot more good than the fed ever will.

If someone can explain to me the justice or even the point behind taking an honest, hard working immigrant without a criminal record and detaining him, besides getting votes from the ignorant xenophobic part of the population, I will gladly retract my comments.

As a reminder, do not supply false zip codes, this does not help our effort, it hurts it.

If you want support in the district, do the research and the work, and build it.
