Because of my stupidity, my dad got stopped by the police tonight.
He has an expired Driver's License (and apparently tag as well), so they gave him a ticket (I think 500 dollars) and he's gonna have to attend court, apparently.

I don't know much about this all, cuz in all honesty, I was very scared to ask him what really happened.

But I'm so worried, DAP.
What's gonna happen in court?
Is there a chance he'll go deported?
If he does, I have absolutely no money and nowhere to stay...

Can anyone tell me more info about this?

It all depends on the town/city where you live. Still, if he was at any risk, he would be in the can already.

Orlando, FL is where we live.

But what happens in court, anyway? I don't know anything about it.

First, he is going to lose his day stuck in court. The judge is going to call him. He is going to scare the crap out your dad by saying that he could end up in prison for a year. Your dad has to nod and say that he understand that. Depending on how mean/tired the judge is, he is going to either scold your dad or go to the point. Going to tell your dad that he drive without a DL and what he declares himself. Your dad is going to say innocent/guilty/no contest. If declared innocent the judge is going to give him another day to gather evidence and defend himself. if he declares himself guilty/no contest, the judge is going to sentence him on the spot. Your dad is going to have certain amount of time to pay the fine. If he cannot, he can go back to the office and ask for an extension. There are a series of papers that your dad will receive and sign, it is not big deal.

That is the median version of the set of events. I have a longer version and a shorter one. If you want more information, I can give it but probably this is enough.

Ok...
I'm thinking here there's no way he'll be found innocent, his DL was expired after all, and there's no way he can renew it.
My dad's not gonna end up in jail, is he?
There's just a fine to pay, right?

Haha.
I'm not really in the mood for handstands right now...

This situation really sucks.
I'm feeling so much right now, and I don't know what to do with all these thoughts and emotions.

Also, another question, am I even allowed to accompany him when he goes to court?

Okay let me tell you what happened with my neighbor okay?
He got stopped for speeding with an out of state DL. He got a ticket and court date. Most people get deported when this happens. He went to court but HE TOOK A LAWYER WITH HIM. The Lawyer went and got him off with only paying a $500 worth of tickets and no deportation. The same judge went on to deport two people that day who didn't bring in a lawyer. This isn't he said she said stuff, my neighbor told us this himself. The moral of the story is BRING A LAWYER.

I cannot say that your dad is in the clear. You seen like a nice person and usually jerks do not offspring nice people. Still, I don't know your dad, if he has done anything else or has prior tickets and so forth.

If this is his first raw deal with the law, he is just going to get a fine and he has up to year to pay for it. So don't worry.

Yes, he can have someone with him. Do not worry, the first time is scary. The place is going to be packed with people and some of them are going to be arrest on the spot for doing worst things than driving without a DL. After spending all day in that seventh circle of hell, your dad is going to feel less than a criminal. That is a reality.
