I'm leaving tomorrow morning to try and get my driver's lisence in New Mexico. I live in Georgia and we will be traveling on I-40 for most of the way. We'll be crossing Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Does anyone know if they put check points on this interstate? I think I will be alright because it's not that close to the border, and the two people who are driving have driver's lisence and one of them is even a citizen.

I have an idea of what they will ask for when I go to the dmv, but can anyone who has gotten a lisence from NM confirm what they ask for? I would really appreciate it. Wish me luck, and say an extra prayer for me every night next week even if you guys have no clue who I am. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hey.

Well, I live in Oklahoma, like 2 miles off I-40. I don't know about other states, but I travel on I-40 all the time, so there's nothing here. =D

I ended up canceling my trip! We got a call a few hours before we were about to leave from the guy that was going to help us get my lisence. He told us that in the past few weeks cops had been checking documentation of the people they pulled over all over New Mexico. He told us that that if the driver had illegals in the car with him, then they would accuse him of helping illegals (being a coyote). I don't really believe this is happening, but my dad didn't want to risk it and we cancelled our trip. Can anyone who lives in New Mexico confirm this? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hey, I'm sorry.. that really sucks.

I don't know about NM, but in Oklahoma, that is most definitely true. It's a felony for a USC to provide transportation or shelter to illegal immigrants. Yet another reason I hate this state..
So even if it weren't true in NM, there's still that risk because you'd be driving across Oklahoma.

that is ridiculous... at least here in san antonio people were complaining about being pulled over for no reason but for profiling them. and that is ILLEGAL you may be illegal but you're here working and struggling just like everyone else... and to pull you over and ask you for papers for no reason that is just absurd.

i dont know when this will stop...when all of us will stop living in fear...

hope everything works out! let us know if theres any changes!

Yup.. and it sucks because it's not like I can just move. My husband is stationed here.. so we're stuck in this hell hole.

I don't know how much they enforce it, but the law does exist. It passed in like 2007, I think, and I googled it and there's all these people posting about how happy they are about it and how every state should follow in Oklahoma's footsteps. Fuck that.

Man, do I miss FL.
