Whats up K-man, yeah, this is Angel from former CoSA. Once in a while I come to this forum to read updates on the DREAM Act. You guys have been doing great, I like how you guys redirected our old domain to this site.

Are you still in SoCal?

^Sadly, I still am Good to see you were able to take care of your situation. I'll be looking for ways to adjust after this year, one way or the other.

In Texas law, if you lie on your application, then you can correct it, but you would have to pay back the amount in which you where suppose to pay. The university could punish you, but not exactly sure why they would since you are telling them about it... I made the mistake in 2006, but I am going to correct it in a few weeks, so I will tell you how it goes. I just don't want to take the chance.

Edit: Also in my case, I applied to college in 2005, and I didn't know I was undocumented at the time. Since I don't look undocumented, my adviser assumed that I was a citizen, and told me to mark it.
Update: So, I finally took the time to go to my college's academic records office to tell them about marking citizenship on my college application. Well, long story short, they fixed the mistake. They didn't care too much since I was suppose to pay instate tuition anyway. So anyone who may have made the mistake on the Texas common application, go and fix it so you can avoid any problems in the future when the DA passes.

Statements like this are not necessarily true, and have the potential to mislead people, not to mention condone the behavior of providing false information on documents that could greatly affect future chances of legalization.

The complete text of the bill can be found here (or by googling "Dream Act 2009 text and looking for the link to thomas.gov): http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c111:1:./temp/~c111y1u26L:e1984:

Under Section 212(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act:

"(C) Misrepresentation.-

(i) In general.-Any alien who, by fraud or willfully misrepresenting a material fact, seeks to procure (or has sought to procure or has procured) a visa, other documentation, or admission into the United States or other benefit provided under this Act is inadmissible.

(ii) FALSELY CLAIMING CITIZENSHIP-

(I) IN GENERAL- Any alien who falsely represents, or has falsely represented, himself or herself to be a citizen of the United States for any purpose or benefit under this Act (including section 274A) or any other Federal or State law is inadmissible.

(II) EXCEPTION- In the case of an alien making a representation described in subclause (I), if each natural parent of the alien (or, in the case of an adopted alien, each adoptive parent of the alien) is or was a citizen (whether by birth or naturalization), the alien permanently resided in the United States prior to attaining the age of 16, and the alien reasonably believed at the time of making such representation that he or she was a citizen, the alien shall not be considered to be inadmissible under any provision of this subsection based on such representation."

The text of DREAM states:
"(C) the alien--

(i) is not inadmissible under paragraph (2), (3), (6)(E), or (10)(C) of section 212(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1182(a)); and

(ii) is not deportable under paragraph (1)(E), (2), or (4) of section 237(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1227(a));"
