Have u ever told a friend about the situation? I mean American friend, not people who are in the same racial group? It causes many confussion for me. My fd ask me to go to a bar, but I do not have any proof (my aunty has my passport and she hold it for me) therefore I just pretend that I don't want to come and he thinks that I am weir....

you mean you're not weird?

jk

forget about what others think of you. however if you do decide to tell someone, make sure it is not going to be someone who is going to "out" you when drunk

I remember someone posting a story like that one some time ago

I told a friend and she was more shocked than anything.. and she felt bad because I couldn't do so many things. I also told my boyfriend.. and we're now married, so obviously, he was okay with it.

Be careful who you tell.. be very selective and only tell people who you really trust.. and only if it's absolutely necessary.

I don't think you need to tell your friend about your situation just because you can't get into a bar. Just tell them you don't drink or don't feel like drinking, don't like bars/clubs.. I don't know, just make something up.

Most of them don't really care about my status. They just say it's fine.
I am very careful choosing the person.

I've only told my good friends and their families. At first they were shocked and felt bad for me, but they're fine with it. They tried to find information to get me out of my situation, but of course it's not as simple as they thought it would be since they didn't know much about immigration policies. But they meant well.

Now, as for hanging out, I couldn't go to clubs where they check for IDs at the door when my passport expired, so we'd hang out at places where they (might) check only when we're sitting down at a table and ready to order. Like certains bars, hotels, restaurants with bars, or lounges.

The strategy that we'd always do... my friends would buy the drinks first at the bar area to get me a drink in hand already before some of us sit down so our waiter/waitress won't ask for my ID when I want to get another. LOL. They're good people.
