she came here on student visa, and she still is documented.
one day before 9/11 occured, she went to get her SSN because she
thought it was required for her SAT. because it states you need to fill out SSN. so she was worried and explained it to them about her situation.
and gave her SSN. she did not have to prove her status or none of that.

9/11 messed up all of our Lives.

Eh, no use moping about it. So we came after the 80s/90s when they gave out SSNs like flyers, and sure 9/11 made it a lot harder for immigrants, but we gotta make the best of it.

It did,when i lived in San Diego i used to play soccer in TJ almost every weekend .After 911 they started asking more questions and twice i was sent to revision after that i decided not to go again.

My parents got one for me too, I believe, a year after we came here. Which was in '93.

It was easy to get a SSN, especially for the kids, since, they would need a SSN to claim them as dependents when they did taxes.

Mine has, "Not Eligible For Work" across it, as all of them have if you were undocumented. I'm going to get info, see the loopholes in all of this, what I can do. Perhaps find a way to get a Credit Card....Wait, no, need a CA ID for that. Jeez.

You can open a checking account without an ITIN but you need an ITIN for a saving account and credit. You should definitely get it. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
