ok two more replies from sentators this morning both positive

Quote:
"The DREAM Act is currently pending before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Although I am not a member of this Committee, please be assured that I support this legislation and will keep your views in mind should it be considered by the full Senate."
-Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D - NJ)

Quote:
"Thank you for contacting me regarding the DREAM Act, which I strongly support. I value your input on this important matter.

We need a tough, smart and comprehensive approach to fix our broken immigration system. We must begin by securing our borders with investments in personnel, infrastructure and technology. We should require the undocumented in this country to register, pay a fine, learn English, and pass criminal background checks before allowing them the opportunity to become citizens.

Our immigration system is broken, and it cannot be fixed by passing one piece of reform, even a good one like the DREAM Act. We should address immigration as a whole, and that is a primary goal of mine here in the Senate..."
- Sen Michael Bennet (D - OR)

oh snap Sen Bennet was born in new delhi!
"Did you know that?... now you know" haha

We gained 3 more cosponsors in the House because it's up to 73 now. Anybody know who the three new cosponsors are?

EDIT: Never mind, I found the three. Our three new cosponsors are:

1. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA 04)
2. Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA 02)
3. Rep. James McGovern (D-MA 03)

Thank you for contacting me about the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2009 (DREAM Act), S. 729. I appreciate hearing your thoughts and concerns on this important issue.

As you may know, S. 729 was introduced in the Senate on March 26, 2009. The DREAM Act would amend the 1996 immigration law to give states the ability to offer in-state tuition to undocumented children without requiring them to do so. It also would enable eligible unauthorized students to obtain legal permanent residency status. To be eligible, aliens must have entered the U.S. before their 16th birthday, have a continuous physical presence in the U.S. for 5 years preceding enactment, good moral character and graduation from secondary school or the equivalent.

Currently, this legislation has been referred to the Judiciary Committee. While I am not a member of this committee, please rest assured should this legislation make its way to the Senate floor, I will keep your views in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information I have provided to you has been helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov, can provide additional details about legislation and state projects, and you can also sign-up to receive email updates. I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

Nothing.

Also, the update for this week will come after the June 25th meeting. It seems that senators don't want to take action until the bill progresses more.
