Geez, it's just like a funeral in here. Chin up guys.

Roll Call actually screwed up their transcript. Here's the actual transcript from today's White House briefing and nothing new was really said at all.

Inaccurate Roll Call transcript:

Quote:
“I can see the president’s desire for it to happen but understanding that currently where we sit the math makes that real difficult,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
Accurate White House Press Briefing Transcript:

Quote:
Q What do you see as a realistic timetable for getting immigration reform through Congress?

MR. GIBBS: Well, I think as I talked about last week, the President is going to have a meeting at the White House on Thursday with those that have supported and opposed in the past what the President believes is comprehensive immigration reform. I think this is -- I think as I described it last week -- part of the ongoing and continued conversation, understanding that we've still got progress to make in order to get something like this through the House and the Senate.

I think the President hopes that later this year we can have and begin formal debate on that. And I think he hopes that it will happen soon, but doesn't have a crystal ball as to when that might happen.

Q With everything else that's going on you can see it slipping into next year?

MR. GIBBS: I can see the President's desire for it to happen, but understanding that the current --currently where we sit, the math makes that more difficult than the discussion.
I think double checking sources is really important. It's the responsible thing to do especially with the fragile emotions at DAP.

The best time to bring up CIR is this year or 2012
So they have time to bring up CIR that has no chance of passing this year or maybe not until Obama's second term as president, But not a bill that have a better chance of passing and benefit over 2 million.... Makes no sense to me

I'm not trying to discourage them from leaving. They have their reasons, and that's their own business. And I'm certainly not suggesting they should sit around and twiddle their thumbs. All I'm saying is that under the Bush administration we only lost one member, as far as I remember, and now in less than a year of the new administration we'll apparently be losing considerably more people.

I wish them luck, but it's still sad.

Again, the alarmism is totally overstated. The Roll Call blurb is completely warped and inaccurate.

Here's the blurb:

Quote:
The White House on Monday acknowledged that immigration reform is unlikely to move in Congress this year.

“I can see the president’s desire for it to happen but understanding that currently where we sit the math makes that real difficult,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

Obama will meet with a bipartisan group of lawmakers Thursday to discuss the issue at the White House.

Gibbs added that Obama hopes that “later this year that we can have the beginning of formal debate on that.”

Obama has consistently put other priorities — including energy and health care reform — ahead of an immigration bill, hoping to have both approved in 2009.
If you look:

Quote:
“later this year that we can have the beginning of formal debate on that.”
is actually,

Quote:
I think the President hopes that later this year we can have and begin formal debate on that.
and this inaccurate quote:

Quote:
“I can see the president’s desire for it to happen but understanding that currently where we sit the math makes that real difficult,”
is actually:

Quote:
I can see the President's desire for it to happen, but understanding that the current --currently where we sit, the math makes that more difficult than the discussion.
He just basically said the discussion will easier than the actual vote getting just like every other type of contentious reform. CIR/DA is no different. This is not a new revelation.

i suppose there is some hope for it to happen this year, that looks highly unlikely considering we have to wait for health care and energy to be done. I am for sure heading outta here in the next month or two. No point living here like an illegal and not wanted by the country i call home so i might as well go back to my real home where i am free to work, get benefits, vote, drive, travel... basically live my life like a citizen rather than in fear. sure, i'll be dirt broke for a while when i get there but the bottom line is it will be home and not some place i am conning myself into thinking is home just cuz i been here for years yet they don't even want me!

for those that have time to wait, i wish u all good luck and hope DA or CIR passes for all ur sakes!

hey, just wait a bit more to see... im currently under removal proceedings; but im willing to have hope until they drag my ass outa here by force... you've waited for so long. give it a bit more time; if you technically can.

yeah i would like to but there is part of me that just wants to get out of here. i have admission to a university back "home" so that is what is swaying my decision to go now rather than wait. i will be sad of course but excited too bc i can finally move on with my life. after all, i am going to scotland so it shouldn't be too bad.
