If you do not mean to curse, you should not have. It does not make your post any better.

Although you do make a valid point. Its just that we all need this so bad that we want it to pass ASAP.

I only remember a few times I heard him speak on immigration to be honest. I believe that Clinton and Obama have the same views on Immigration.

It will be alright folks...

*I am working on my grammar*
Here's how to differentiate between Obama & Clinton:

Obama specifically said Dream Act should be passed immediately, during the presidential debate.

Hilary was not as voiced on the issue, although they have similar pro-immigrant approach.

McCain didn't/couldn't say anything out of fear.

I can't believe I wasted my time on this abortion of a thread. Someone please delete this shenanigans.

No k-man, you're wrong.

McCain would have suspended his presidency just to pass this piece of legislation that affects less than 1% of the population — to hell with the economy, and health care, who needs that anyway?

Just look at the list of co-sponsors for the DA. He's proudly there in the forefront of ... wait, never mind, don't look at that list. McCain is a very busy man, that's all.

No.

Just because he hasn't done anything about it yet doesn't mean Obama won't do anything about immigration ever.
Also you're just saying this because you're dissapointed in Obama but what makes you think that Clinton or McCain would've been any better??
And don't you think the economy and healthcare SHOULD be Obama's top priorities? If they weren't he'd get a LOT of crap from everyone.

I don't think either Clinton or McCain or anyone else would've been particularly eager to start new legislation on immigration this soon, so NO I don't think anyone else should've won.

Obviously frustration was setting in, hence the question about alternative scenarios. But to be blunt, politics as they say is a tough sport. Once as a group, it is determined that you can be taken for granted without any serious political consequence you will because that is how it works. Somebody has to be dissappointed and it is gonna be the ones that have nowhere else to go to.

Example- African americans are not giving considerable political clout because they feel that they will always vote democratic because republicans hate them and there are no viable third parties. So the playbook for politicians especially democrats is tickle their ears with empathy and civil rights marches but do not do policy initiatives that might inflame the majority. Be civil and say the right things and give symbolic gestures but take them for granted if need be.

I am afraid hispanics if not careful can fall into the same trap. Reports about talking about CIR and meetings might be only a way to tickle ears(I hope not) but political pressure must be in the mix. The administration has to know that hispanics and other immigrant communities want results not mere words and there will be political consequences if they feel that hispanics can be taken for granted.

Hence my musings about Hilary and Mccain. Obama has to realize that if he does not act then politically he might begin to lose the enthusiasm of hispanics which he needs for the next election.

A positive example is the Gay lobby. They are not relenting on the need to change dont ask dont tell policy. Even though they have not achieved their goal, they have gotten a more than symbolic policy action with the federal government giving same sex benefits.

Hispanic lobby must push for CIR and remind Obama about his promises and if it takes reminding him that options were available in the past and they will be available in the future then so be it. Maybe we will not get CIR or amnesty now but DA or stops to deportations might be in the cards now.

I respect , like and admire Obama but politics is about results. Sometimes one has to give some grease to make the wheels move.

Just because a certain demographic votes consistently —and predominantly— Democratic, doesn’t mean that the party takes them for granted.

Look at the case of blue collar workers in the Rust Belt. They clearly have no other place to go (when Republicans are in bed with big businesses, deregulation, anti-union lobbyists, etc) But that doesn’t mean that Democrats take them for granted and disregard their specific needs. In fact, one of the most controversial bills that Democrats will try to enact is the Employee Free Choice Act. If your theory were true, Democrats wouldn’t risk alienating indispensable big donors for a demographic that they already have in the bag.

As far for African-Americans, I’m not sure that Democrats just “tickle their ears with empathy and civil rights marches”. I mean, one of the first laws signed by president Obama —and made possible by Democrats in Congress— was the SCHIP which disproportionately benefits African-American children who were vastly uninsured. Not to mention the expansion of anti-discriminatory laws, and social welfare programs targeted at inner city constituents, that Democrats have fought for over the years. Compare that to the GOP’s candidate lineup last November, for instance, where they had zero —yes, zero minority candidates running for office.

If anything, I would argue that when a demographic becomes more predominant in the Democratic party, it doesn’t get taken for granted, it gets more representation, and more power.

We all say things extemporaneously out of frustration sometimes, I’m glad you’re able to recognize that now, and instead propose a solution. I agree that we must keep reminding him of the importance of immigration reform, and I feel like today’s meeting does just that.

PS: The gays are really upset with Obama right now, especially after the homophobic Justice Department brief on DOMA. If you go to any gay website, you’ll find more anti-Obama-ism than in a tea party.

You = idiot because: 1. You spelled Hillary wrong, 2. If Hillary won, then she wouldn't have done anything about immigration. There you go, now I hope you realize why people think that you are stupid for posting this thread.
