On the day of the court, I just plead guilty and the Judge just told me to behave myself, by not driving etc. It was a short and sweet verdict. The judge did know that I was an undocumented illegal. (I showed him my college transcript, close family friend, and a lawyer).
IF you happen to drive, you should purchase some car insurance, because that helped me... and also cuz I was wearing my seatbelt

If their is NO need to drive, please dont drive brothers and sisters. Dont risk it!!

man that sheriff was harsh, he should let u drive with a foreign DL with in state laws, all he could do was to give u a ticket or something. At least the jugde was humane... haha

btw in what state did this happen

i got a ticket for unlicensed driving once. I was respectful to the officer. When he asked why i didnt have a license, i simply stated that it was "a personal situation." he left it at that. he was really cool about it. he said "i know you are a good kid, but you cant drive without a license." He asked who's car it was i replied "my brother's." I gave him my brother's number and he called him and told him where to pick me and the car up. He told me to stay parked and wait for my brother. That if he saw me driving away, he would impound it.

when i went to court, the judge asked me if i was able to obtain a license, i replied "no." he then said "your fine is $$$." i paid the ticket and i was done with it.

I just joined this forum and I thought that I would post a reply with something that happened to me and see if it is of any help... I live in NYC, been in the country illegally for 8 years and I've been driving for about two years now, I've gotten pulled over twice, first time the officer gave me a ticket, I showed him my college id, debit card and some bank paper i had on me to prove that i was living where i was claiming to be residing at the time, let me go after a brief lecture, second time similar consequence, was issued a ticket for driving without a license and paid it off. Both times I was extremely apologetical and respectful I guess that helps...

p.s. Actually I got pulled over a third time, but after convincing the Officer that I was just trying to save some time going to the bank, that I had forgotten my dl at home and that I was a "good guy" obedient of the law and that I didn't try to escape from him, he actually let me go without issuing a ticket or anything, i guess I was pretty lucky that time

yea I guess it has to do with living in NYC, this city is flooded with immigrants and they are pretty laid back as far as illegal immigration, I think this is one of the many sanctuary cities so the NYPD wouldnt ask me for my immigration status

The sheriff was pretty harsh. He was pretty rude, and asked me a couple of questions, blah blah.
I heard last week that some illegal lady with a foreign dl was pulled over. Apparently the sheriff snapped her dl into two and detained her on the spot, she left five kids behind... Sad sad
Also one of my cousins was detained after being pulled over with a foreign dl.
I guess another option to "SAVE YOUR ASS" is to give a fake name... I have known a couple of people that have done that... I dont know if it is logically smart to do, but its worked for some people. I do recall that my lawyer told me that...

Anyone knows if they tend to be more lenient when you have a valid in-state learner permit?

I dont think itll help you unless you have someone sitting next to you. driving with a permit is like driving without a license

No I am not from Texas, I am from the Wild West
I guess the punishment depends on what COUNTY you are in. The county I live in IS alot more lenient than the county that I live next too (the county in which I was pulled over).. actually it probably depends on the judge. Since he is the one that determines what will happen.

Also if you have driver license from a different country they really wont take it in account. From what I know.. my friend was pulled over and showed them their mexican drivers license and the sheriff told them it was useless!!

Hey dreamers, I dont want to sound negative or anything like that... but I guess if you have some type of dl is better than having Nothing... RIGHT.
