Don't say things like that because it's very misleading. Of course driving with just a valid permit is better than driving with no DL; in some cases it can even be better than driving with a foreign license because it will at least establish your identity.

In a lot of states in the US (i'm not gonna say all because honestly I don't know) a foreign driver's license has absolutely no value. Some foreign licenses look so primitive that you can pretty much make one at home with a good printer. How is a policeman suppose to know what it is or if its legit?

If you're just driving with your permit, tell the officer that you're a student and never drive and just got the permit for identification purposes and this trip is a one time deal. Tell him you have to pick up medication for your sick grandma if you have to. If you weren't doing anything particularly wrong the officer might show some compassion. OTOH, If you were doing 85 in a 55 zone you are shit out of luck though.

If you have your permit the worst you're gonna get is a citation and your car might get impounded, but the officer will not detain you to check your identity so you will be home free as far as a possibility of dealing with ICE, and that should always be the first priority.

On another note, if you have a valid permit why don't you just get a DL? Or did you fall through that loophole in MD law where you needed to get your permit before a certain date to be able to apply for a DL?

In los angeles county depending on who pulls you over your car is automatically held for 30 days at the impound unless it belongs to a dealer and that car dealer can take it out as a lien holder. I've gotten a car back in 3 days but once it took 30 days.... I told them that i lost my wallet and that I do not remember my license number. I gave them the insurance papers and registration and that's it. I didn't say much...so keep your mouth shut and that's it. I drive a nice car i guess so i don't think they suspected anything else...

Hey guys, I wanted to ask your opinion about something.

I live in Georgia, I believe it's one of the harshest states when it comes to immigration, and i was thinking about buying a moped (49cc). I have a friend that used to have one but he never got pulled over. I think if you follow the laws there is no reason you would get pulled over, you can't go that fast on a moped anyways.

The law here says:
1. Must be 15 years of age and have in their possession a valid driver's license, instructional permit or limited permit. (what's a limited permit??)
2. Must wear protective headgear.
3. No tag is required.

What would happen to me if for some reason I got pulled over? I was thinking about using it only for going to college, which is about 25 minutes away from my house. I would carry my student ID, a passport, and some kind of proof of where I live. I could get insurance under my parents' name. What do you guys think?

The state defines a moped as a vehicle that:

Has an engine that doesn't exceed 50 cubic centimeters.
Can't go faster than 30 mph.
Doesn't require clutching or shifting.
If a vehicle exceeds either of the first two qualifications, it's likely considered to be a motorcycle or a scooter, and must follow the rules pertaining to motorcycles.

Mopeds can't be used on roads where the minimum speed is above 35 mph, or on limited-access highways. Additionally, you'll need to be at least 15 years old and have a valid driver’s license, instructional permit, or limited permit to drive a moped. You must also wear a helmet when riding.

Mopeds aren't required to be titled or registered.
So you need some sort of permit. Although I think as long as you have some sort of identification with you, you'll be ok.

i was actually driving my boyfriend's car back home to his dad's when some girl ran a stop sign nad i ran into her. it was a big accident and of course cops were called in, when they asked for my driver's license ( i had an expired learners dl) i told them that i had lost it recently and handed them my passport instead. they tried looking me up on some system to see if i had a driver's license but of course didn't find me. they just gave me a citation and actaully drove me to me boyfriend's father's house and told me to take care of my injuries.

AND THIS WAS IN TEXAS!
