google it and use a pop up filter.

I was working from the age of 17 until last month. I had to quit because of a fffn class. This determines which schools I will get into for my PhD. So I am unemployed now.

I definitely need to ask around for a job- I'm currently working for a family owned business, and the owner is my dad's friend, only I'm not getting paid...

Some great ideas guys!

The best option is to do research. If your school like other major universities, then you should be able to sign up to do research with a professor. You will then receive a scholarship/stipend for your time. Usually it's about $1000+. It shouldn't be too late since it is July, but it depends on the school.

Other options:
Get a job.
Go to your financial aid office and tell them about your problem.

On another note, I got an email for a $1000 scholarship for international/undocumented students undergrads in Fall 2010, but I will probably be in grad school, so here is the link. The deadline is July 15, 2009, so it won't help this year, but would help next year. http://www.myusearch.com/Public/Scholarships/index.cfm

Good luck.

If you can get through school without working, do it. Concentrate on getting a 4.0 and building up a really strong set of skills. This will make things far easier for you when it comes to applying to a grad program.

Otherwise, you might want to try to get a job that is related to your field, as the post above advices.

For books, try demonoid.com, it's the best torrent site out there.

craigslist, should be your best friend, i know its mine lol, i got numerous jobs from that site. other than that, if you do not feel like copying pages from a book, i would recommend, amazon.com. they have many used books, and fast shipping (2-3 days). my book that cost me 60$ new. was only 20$ at amazon. (used at the college was 50$). the good thing about them is, that on used books, they will tell you, the condition of the book, and if theres any rips, pages missing etc.

ill share my secret, for dirt cheap books

bigwords.com

i have not payed more then like 30 bucks for any of my books, i get "international versions" if they are available on bigwords (they are exactly the same as the regular books but are softcover) or i check if the previous edition of the book is the same (most cases it is) and use that, then if i want i jsut resell em on amazon, but most of the time i get em for dirt cheap so ill just end up keeping em

I'd rather stick to the legal options, and I don't mean disrespect to those who do get fake #s because they're just trying to make a living.

I appreciated all the help about books. I'm really loving Chegg.com although I'm still a bit scared to try it out, I'm pretty sure I will. If anyone's had any experience with the site tell me what it was like. The only problem I had with the torrent sites is that they require an account and for some of them registrations are closed (and I hear some sites require you to pay?).

Also, yes, now I am very aware that craigslist should be my best friend. I've started selling my old school books on there, so I can least get some money that way.

There's other sites (like bigwords.com) that direct you to sites that sell for cheap, and I've found a lot of those It's always very helpful. Thanks for the tips guys!

(And more advice is welcome still, since there's probably other Dreamies struggling with book money and whatnot)

I'm starting my sophomore year of college in the fall, and the tuition has increased. I have a full-ride but it doesn't cover the increase, and since my family lives paycheck to paycheck there is absolutely no source for that money. We can't, and don't want to get any more loans because we're in enough debt already. In addition I will be needing at least $300 for books.

On top of all of this mess the owner of the house we rent has put our home on short-sale meaning they're trying to sell it as soon as possible and then we have 30 days to pack up and go. We don't have the money for any sort of deposit or downpayment at another place. So needless to say, we need help big time!

The issue is, I can't work, my parents are already overworked, and I don't know what to do. If anyone has some ideas please post them here or PM me.

Thanks,
DB
As bad as you need $ there are many owners of properties out there that are willing to rent with little or no deposit because they are in the same boat. I would try some private landlords especially if you guys are good renters, then if that does not work try some leasing companies even they need good renters right now.
