I am trying to obtain a photo identification for a ninteen year old that has been in the states from Mexico for 12 years. As she has completed high school, and attempting to go to college, this is becoming more of an issue. I keep running into the need to allready have a photo id. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

she should go to their local Mexican consulate and ask for a matricula...its really easy to obtain one..and in many cases it works as a Photo ID..

Can this be done with only a birth certificate. She has no other identification of any kind.

You'll need the birth certificate, a photo id (an old high school id perhaps?), and some sort of proof of address (a bill or letter sent to their home). if she doesn't have a photo id, then the consulate might still be able to work with her with the birth certificate and the proof of address.

Try with the birth certificate. They might be able to help you.

And after you get the Mexican marticula consular (or maybe at the same time, like I did), you can also get a Mexican passport, which is VERY helpful.. You can use it to open bank accounts, some use it as an identification to fly (which is risky), or simply to get into clubs.

Has anyone been rejected to get in a club with a matricula? Are bouncers used to people showing them their matricula or a passport?

Your passport would work at all times, the bouncer just want to see an authentic ID with your date of birth and photo. Some bouncers think the matricula is fake and some of them think that it's a green card.

And as far as I know, you can open a bank account with a matricula. There's no need a passport to do it .

I don't know about the Mexican consulate, but I think that a birth certificate and some kind of another ID would work fine.

Most clubs in Los Angeles will not let you in with a matricula unless it comes with $20 on the side. Otherwise, you better have an ID or a passport. I usually have no problem with my expired driver's license.

I used my passport to get into a club before.
I don't think they really cared much even though my picture was from 11 years ago when I was 8
Or maybe it was because I'm a girl and they don't really care much.
