"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement believes that about one-third of American Apparel Inc.'s Los Angeles work force isn't eligible to work in the country.

ICE said 1,600 employees appear not to be authorized to work in the U.S., American Apparel disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late Tuesday. Those employees appear to have obtained employment by providing documentation which ICE believes to be suspect and not valid, American Apparel said."

Ironic! The company that brags about having clothes that are MADE IN THE USA. Employing and exploiting "Undocumented Workers." I guess if their philosophy is if they're gonna make the clothes in the US they might as well import the workers. Good luck to these people. My heart goes out to them.

How is American Apparel "exploiting" these workers? please explain. Last time I read they get payed above the Ca. minimum wage [$8] plus other benefits that the company offers. If anything.. this group on individuals are the lucky few who dont get exploited.

Exactly. American Apparel is not exploiting anyone, these people are much better off working for AA than doing other jobs. And as far as I know, they are all pretty happy there.

Oh come on. Apparently the new philosophy is that if you are undocumented and have a job you are getting exploited. Give me a break.

And my heart goes out to people who are hungry all over the world or the people in Africa who have to deal with a new Civil War everyday, certainly not to a bunch of people who have a job and are able to provide for themselves.

American Apparel is a great company, and I'm sure they knew that the employees were undocumented; however — given the company's salient support for immigration reform — they decided to hire them anyway, in protest for the inaction in Washington.

I don't see how these workers are being exploited either.

I'll be happy to continue giving them my business.

American Apparel is an amazing company and...they support minorities like us. Don't forget the "legalize LA" campaign.

And I like their "V" neck shirts.
