Get both!
Passport you will need after DA passes, so just get it.

Both of them together can serve as photo id's.

For example I used the matricula today to get my health card.
(Thanks Ed)

OMG hahaha. Good thing I always flake on friends. Saved myself from embarrassment. (It's funny right now but I think everyone here knows how it feels.)

That one girl said she goes in with her passport. But yeah, they probably let you in 'cos you're a girl lol.

I don't know where my passport is, but I'm pretty sure it has my baby pic on it. Have any guys tried getting into clubs with your passport having a baby pic?

I've used my passport to go clubbing, which is maybe 30+ times, and have never run into any problems. I live in Los Angeles, so bouncers are probably used to this type of thing. Yes, it's embarrassing at first, but it's better than missing out on my youth. Just dress appropriately, don't get too inebriated before going in, and be nice to the bouncers and promoters.

The only times I've had problems with using my passport as ID was when I tried buying alcohol at this one local liquor store and a particular Stater Bros. After I got rejected both times, I just went to the Albertsons closeby and got my drinks there with no hassle.

Thanks for letting me know. I live in southern California, too!

Out of curiosity, what did they tell you at Stater Bros and the liquor store?

They asked me if I had a California ID or license. I just said, "No, I'm an international student." Then, they just said that they couldn't accept it as a valid form of identification. I think it's kind of stupid, because who in their right mind would get a fake passport to carry around? I would have just gotten a fake ID, if I wanted to do that.
